Also on the Rhodes Island, just like in whole Greece, the religion plays a very important role. Everywhere, there are churches, Monasteries and chapels. On the beach of the Faliraki, there is a small, white chapel. It looks like a white pearl, in the middle of the blue sea. Leave a Comment

The pearl of this town in the Old Town with its Knights' Castle, the Street of the Knights, the Palace of the Grand Masters, the medieval streets, squares (like Ippokratos one), ruins, walls of the Castle , churches, shopr, tavernas and great atmosphere there. I suppose you know that the Old Town of Rhodes Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Rhodes Town was built in 408 BC. There are the fortification from XIV century in the north and the main building of it is a Palace of the Grand Masters. You can also visit the Arechaeological Museum in old Knights' hospital, a collection of Decorative Art, Byzantium Museum. After visit the Castle of Grand Masters you can see the Mosque of Suleiman. Going down andf in the south from this Mosque you get to Street of Socrates, the shopping street in Rhodes Town. Next you get to the Square of Ippokratous where you can see nice Turkish fountain in the centre of it. There is also a part of Knights' building named "Castellania" there which was built in 1597 year. Next from Ippokratous Square you can go to visit the old Jewish qarter of Rhodes Town. There is a Square of Jewish Martyrs there. There are also ruins of the Church of our Lady of Chora which are interesting to see them. A butterfly in the Valley of Butterflies. by chiara76, 2 more photos The Valley of the Butterflies is about 6 km. from the Paradeisi. It is one of the most interesting places in the whole island and in the whole Europe. Going by the car you should look for the sing "Petaloudes". The butterflies spend there a summer and leave the Valley in September. They leave their eggs in the different points of Rhodes Island. In April the larvas hatch out and in the beggining of the June you can see them in the final form. We saw them. They are everywhere in the Valley. It is nice view. When they don't fly their wings are in dark colour but during the flight their wings shows the red colour of the other side. It is very interesting. Leave a Comment

The Mandraki Harbour makes part of the New City of Rhodes. This is a very important wing of the city, with a lot of important buildings. At the entrance in the Mandraki harbour there are two columns that stay probably on the places, where the feet of the Colossus of Rodos were placed. The Saint Nicolaus lighthouse is also a part of the harbour. On the tongue of the harbour, one can see the three wind mills that represent a symbol of the city. Many yachts, great ships, boots and other luxury water embarkations are there on the coast of the harbour. Leave a Comment

Lindos is one of the nicest places to visit in the Rhodes Island. It lies on the east coast of the island. Homer told it had been built by the Dorians at the same time as Kameiros and Ialyssos in the 12th century B.C. Lindos is well known from the Acropolis located on the big hill. If you are interested in the archaeology you can't miss this place! The Palace of the Grand Masters. Rhodes Town. by chiara76, 4 more photos The Palace of the Grand Masters in Rhodes Town is the most impressive Palace from all of Kinights' Palaces in the whole Dodecanese Islands. It was built in XIV century by the Knights, destroyed in year 1856 and in year 1912 Italians decided about its rebuilding as a summer residence od Mussolini and Victor Emanuel III. None of them were there. Right now there is a museum in the Palace's chambers. The Knights' Street leads to the Castle. Leave a Comment

The small bay of Kallithea offers excellent swimming and skin diving. The Italians tried to launch it as a spa for rheumatism, gout, kidney and liver ailments, even the claim that Hypocrates, greek father of all physicians, came over from Kos to take the waters, failed to draw the crowds, and the building has fallen into disrepair. They have currently been under renovation for at least the last ten years.

It is one of the nicest streets I have ever seen and especially in the evening! You just have to see it being in Rhodes Town as it is must see in Rhodes! This street was surrounded by the taverns where the Knights met in. There are also emblems on the facades. It is one of the most famous medieval streets in Europe. Leave a Comment
