From or to international airports, and around Greece fly numerous air lines, but the internal of them is Olympic Airline.
Some of the internal Greek connections with the International Airport of Rhodes are:
Athena – 4 or 5 times a day
Karpathos – 1 or 2 times a day
Kos – 1 or 2 times a day
Kreta – 1 or 2 times a day

We went to the City of Rhodes by bus and found it to be a very good possibility. When driving by car there later, we almost got lost in all these one-way streets of the new town as our map wasn't showing them! There's a central bus station next to the New Market (Nea Agora). The harbour and the Old Town are only some steps away.
Busses go about each half an hour, you'll find a timetable at the central bus station and there's also an information where you can ask if you are unsure when a bus goes or which bus number you should take. You can buy tickets there, but we payed in the bus instead which seems to be common. There's someone walking through the bus - not so easy if it's full like in our case, but somehow it worked! A ticket from Kalithea to Rhodes (8 km) costs 1,60 Euro, that's rather cheap, I think.

When we went to THERMAE KALITHEA to shoot some beautiful photographs we saw some boats leaving. We informed and created the idea to do a boat-trip and, doing some shoots on the island of Symi. Well, that did not work out ... it took too long to prepare the models, to look for a location etc.
The schedule from Rhodes to Symi and Symi to Rhodes tells there are three boats running this schedule: the Symi II ferry, the Aegli hydrofoil and the Panormitis high-speed catamaran. The Aegli leaves from Mandraki Harbour in Rhodes New Town; the Symi II & Panormitis from Colona (Kolona) Harbour outside the walls of the Old Town.
have a great boat-trip anyway

The local town buses leave opposite the Nea Agora on the harbour side. They do various circulars around the town suburbs - the most useful being No. 3 to Rodini Park and No.5 to Monte Smith.
Tickets on the bus cost 1 euro each way.

The non-harbour perimerter of the Nea Agora is where the bus stations are for buses to the West and east of the Island. Th two stations virtually merge into each other even though they are on different roads - Rimini Square for the East Side bus station and Averos Street for the West side buses.
There are regular buses to the most popular beach resorts of Faliraki, kalithea, kolymbia and Lindos on the east - less frequently to other nice beaches of Stegna,Haraki and Pefkos. The furthest you can take a bus to on the east side in a day is Gennadi.
The West side is more typically greek and places such as Butterfly valley at Petaloudes and Kamiios can be reached as well as the resorts of Kremasti and Ixia and the airport.
Unforunately some of the buses advertise most ungreek restaurants :-S

Its a bit confusing as sometimes you buy a ticket before you get on the bus, sometimes a return and others a single only and sometimes you can only pay on the bus! However there are kiosks staffed by friendly english speaking greeks to help out and the timetables are available too - copies of timetable can be obtained from the nearby tourist office. I found they pretty well run to schedule and were mostly air conditioned. Prices varied acording to distance for example Lindos was 3.70 euros each way and Faliraki was 1.70 euros each way. Not expensive and often passed through some of the smaller villages en route too which was interesting to see.

These litle tourist trains seemed quite poular in the main resorts on Rhodes and Rhodes Town is no different. Starting from the National Theatre the red train circumnavigates the new town (but not the old) and up to Monte Smith. Price was 3 euros per trip.
