To take photos is beautiful and unforgettable, but also dangerous.
My husband gone on a slippery, wet stone that stand in the sea water, and he wanted to photograph the two columns, of the entrance in Mandraki Harbour.

Beware of the effects of the strong Greek sun. Use a high factor sun lotion with UV protection and accustoms your skin to the sun gradually. Food hygiene on Rhodes is generally excellent. However, preparing food yourself, it is advisable to wash raw fruits and vegetables thoroughly as chemicals are often used in the cultivation process.
When stung by a jellyfish (like me), first aid may be in order. Salt water may also be used in case any of these compounds are not readily available, but fresh water should never be used. Rinsing the sting site with fresh water, rubbing the wound, or using alcohol, spirits, ammonia, or urine will encourage the release of venom. The moat is a very large open space between the walls. It is a nice place, but I had to walk for a lot of miles before arriving to the exit. I've read in a tip here on VT that there should be more than one exit, but really I only could find one; at the end of the moat.
I didn't take any pics of the moat, beacuse i was tired and I was only thinking how to get out of that place. Leave a Comment

When walking along the harbour side, I noticed three African women. One got up as soon as she saw me, asked where I was from and at the same time was tying a beaded bit of string around my wrist. So quick she was! I immediately said to take it off, luckily before she had put a knot in it, would have never been able to undo it! They demand money once they have it on your wrist.! BEWARE!

 Nowt else to do than poke

The Old Town is undeniably lovely with cobbled streets crossed by old archways, with quaint ruins and warm colours welcoming you at every step. But the main streets are given over entirely to tourism and after the cruise ships have docked for the day you'll be fighting the throngs.
At least in Valletta (another walled medieval port and one that also has connections with the Knights of Templar) we got a sense that it was a living city. A shame it's all the way over in Malta. The ruins in Rhodes Town are quite pristine, being rebuilt as they were by the Italians during the occupation. More interesting we found were the old empty mosques, each with their fountain out front. Leave a Comment

Yes, unlike the Old Town they may have trees and the occasional Art Deco edifice, but it's quite a shock leaving the pedestrianised walled town. There's really no reason to venture here unless it's for the beach, which is too close to the shipping lanes for my tastes (who knows what's going into the water). Oh, and a Marks & Spencer, for those of you who feel the need to visit one.
Having said all that, there is an interesting Muslim cemetery near the harbour and Neo Agora (new marketplace). Leave a Comment

The Rhodos island has the 4th biggest airport Diagoras in Greece, ~21 airlines organize their flights to this tiny island, plus unimaginable amount of charter flights everyday. The main problem is that Diagoras airport is 10 km from the Rhodos town, and all the planes happen to fly over the Rhodos town. It would look like it is nothing wrong with it but when you have hundreds of planes a day over your head, it may get irritating. If you don't feel like having those planes all the time over you, we recommend for you to choose other summer resort than Rhodos town itself.
