This is a fabulous restaurant!We ate here at least twice a day for 5 days!They have fabulous coffees, especially the iced/foamed ones.You can't beat their breakfast specials.There menu is varied and everything is tasty. The Greek Breakfast, comes with any type of coffee, toast, tomato slices, cucumber, greek olives, ham, and cute little jars of jam.Also the Pasta Carbonara was great for dinner.
Greek yoghourt is world famous and a very good alternative for a dessert while in Greece. Thicker and more tasty than "normal" yoghourt, it is sold here in supermarkets too, but it often comes in 1/2 liter sizes. I bought one to take away to a beach I was going to in the morning, but after finishing the whole pack (Buffff) I just couldn't have lunch that day!!
Mezedes are the Greek Apetizers. It reminded me on a way the spanish tapas. They are little pieces of typical greek dishes that you may have as an informal meal with a beer or wine.To go "mezedes hopping" is a good way to get to know Greek Gastronomy in an evening!
In some Greek Restaurants (specially in the old fashioned classic ones) you can go to the kitchen area and see the daily dishes by yourself. I like it this way much more, as you can see directly what you are gonna eat and can decide much easier what to have for lunch.
As I explained above we were on a very tight budget. We mainly ate Sesame bagel (5 for £1, Bargin!) which you can by anywhere off the streets. In Athens for a 'treat' we had salad bagettes. They have great Bagette takeaways called 'Everest'.
Any restaurant in the local town, just down the road.We had a self-catering place, but when I saw the restaurant prices, I decided to eat out every night! It was £3-4 for a main course, and although the quality wasn't fabulous, it was perfectly adequate. Regardless of what type of restaurant it nominally is, be it Greek, Italian, whatever, they all seem to have absolutely everything on the menu!
There are now several restaurants within the walls of Monemvassia. The oldest and still the best is the Matoula. The establishment has an excellent garden patio that looks out over the town and the sea. It is extremely popular so you may want to make a reservation. Any local speciality will likely please you.
It is a classic and famous Greek soft cheese that is produced by sheep milk or a blend of sheep and goat milk up to a proportion of 70:30 %. Very fattening indeed and is used in all Greek salads. You either love it or hate it. You can find feta cheese widely used in their salads, sandwiches and pizzas. If you are a cheese fan, do consider buying back a pack from the Deli because those found in Greece are definitely much fresher and richer in taste. You can get fresh ones nicely packed air-tight. the island of paros seemed to be quite plain at first. the landscape seemed dry, and hungry as did the air on my face. i was ready to explore though and jumped on the first bus i saw. it ended up taking me to a wonderful town called Naoussa. it ended up being the center for boat rides to romote beaches and the town itself had plenty of culture of offer. after a short beaching experience at Kolibithres, i walked along the waterfront until i found a grouping of great restaurants. many of them had squid hanging from the roof, drying in the sun, that would be cooked shortly. I picked the cheapest place, of course, and dinned on cabobs as the sun slowly dipped below the horizon. it was a unbelievibly beautiful end to a stressful day of travel.
