Tripoli (Shopping center not a shop): The Best Shopping Center in greece

I'm not just describing one shop but a shopping center, called Tripoly. It is near Kastri & Astros on the eastern side..and it's I think about..5 hours from Athens.Its a very beautiful center..full of old churches, great stautes, nice little cafes and many modern greek clothing stores. It is nice beacuse not many tourist go here (its a little off the beaten path) so you can experiance true Greece here =) Clothes! They have very different but cool clothes in Tripoly, everything is either very colorful (hot pink, bright yellow, red, purple, neon green) or white. they have alot of white pants and t-shirts...probable beacuse it is so hot!Also you can sit down at a nice little cafe along the street and get Greek coffee and pastries which are great =). oh and most waitress' know english (especially the young women) so don't be shy!

Leave the souvenirs for the end

Unless you look for something very specific from some part of Greece, you can leave your shopping for the last day (supposing you leave by plane from Athens). Here you can find in the Plaka area many different souvenirs of Greece.And for the last minute shopping you can do that at the airport, although prices there tend to be slightly higher. Nevertheless, there are good prices there for liquors and spirits, I always buy ouzo there, as I just carry the bottle in the airport and it goes safer in my plastic bag than in the checked-in suitcase...

Times of shopping

There is a period where they close the shops from 2-4 to sleep. How weird is that? So don't expect to go shopping in the middle of the day unless you go to the tourist stores. You will have to wait if you want to go buy groceries.

Shopping in Greece is not shopping in North America. Clothes, items are not cheap. Plus for canadians you have the euro exchange. I would save my money and buy little gifts for friends and spend my money on tours and stuff. I don't think coming from North America you should waste your money on fashion items. THey are too overpriced. If you like to cook, make sure to pick up olive oil before you go home. THe best you can buy is in Crete Greece. tourist itemsolive oil FOr olive oil you will not pay alot and neither for tourist items. I found t-shirts on Crete for 4 Euro. I bought alot of stuff for my family. soap, t-shirts, ceramic pictures, hats

Oh, Giannis...Giannis Plutarhos, very nice boy who sings nice.Greeks are known as singing nation, so it is natural to buy their music when you are in Greece.Two years ago Greek girls went crazy of Giannis Plutarhos (I saw it on their TV).I also found it as a good tutorial of learning greek, at least you will know such words as kouritsaki, agapi, matakia, glukia, sagapo poli poli:)

Sometimes you didnt have time to buy something to drink or eat, just because the supermarket was too short opened (why the cheapest supermarkets are opened only to 17.00 o'clock?). There is a party though and maybe you would like to prepare yopurself. You are not really lucky then. It is really hard to find a 24hour opened shops in greece. There exist few, but dont even make effort to try to find one. A good solution i nthis situation is one of periptero, a kind of kiosk, that are plenty of those in the streets. They are usually opened until late and quite well equipped (juices, retsina, beer, chockolate bars, crisps and many others), although the price is for sure higher than at the supermarket. The number of those little shops is amazing You can buy there not only food, but other things used often. The speciality that you shouldnt forget is beckleri, two corals put on a string made of...
