Skiathos Island Restaurants

Unless you are a family of wealthy sea lions you may wish to avoid the Carnayo restaurant for fear of becoming victims of the great 'fresh fish!' scam visited upon us during our stay in July. While it is frequent practice for fish to be priced by the kilo in many restaurants, I am sure that most non-amphibians would not expect to be served a whole kilo of chopped up fish per person with no accompanying vegetables, rice, salad or potatoes. Just fish! Piles of it! In a heap on your plate! Even the fish soup contained a kilo. While the manager protested that it was quite normal for people in Skiathos to consume such vast quantities of fish, the sceptical among us could not help wondering, at the presentation of a 450+ euro bill for the fish alone (shared by 3 people), if this might not be some cynical ploy to get rid of the night's catch in one go, in the near empty restaurant. Funnily enough, some waiters in other restaurants also seemed to take the view that this was a scam, and did not seem entirely surprised that it had taken place at Carnayo.

It is located in a less crowded spot of the town from he harbour towards the road to airpot. We enjoyed the breathtaking view to Bourtzi while being 'on board', which is the name of the retaurant translated. We laso liked the style, and speaking as a stylist & journalist too, it reminds cruiser of old times '30's or something and combined with the lila and lime colours gives the aura of freshness. The menu is exceptional as we visited the place many times, all dishes are high quality, respect seasonality and totally vau for money. Bravo!

Favorite Dish: Lamb Noisette with smokedeggplant and manouri cheese gratin
Risotto Milanese with gruyere cream flavored with Greek DOC saffron
Chicken breast fillet with potato mash, crispy rocket leaves and velvet thyme sauce

There is plenty of choice in Aghia Paraskevi for a good meal. Platanias Taverna, Jimmys and the Orsa on the main road all offer traditional food at a reasonable price. Off the main road, the Pegasus and Kalma also offer exceptional value.

Favorite Dish: Kleftiko at Kalma

This restaurant is well decorated and serves traditonnal dishes all prepared by the expert hands of Mrs Spyridoula. Get a table at the veranda and order “Choriatiki Tyropita”(cheesepie), “Taramokeftedes” (balls with Taramas(a product created from the fishes eggs)) and a lot of other dishes.

We tried a lot of tavernas, but this one had the most authentic Greek food, just wonderful!
Very nice and quick service and in good location for people watching as well.
Prices are very reasonable and portions are just right.

Favorite Dish: Everything!

Open all day, close to the beach it's a great option for tasting traditional Greek “mezedes” (the equivalent of “tapas” in Spanish cuisine) with “Plomari” ouzo. Roasted fish, seafood or the famous Petros' chicken fillet stuffed with banana that is named after the chef, are some of your options for the main course. Should you wish to have lobster for dinner make sure to call in advance and make a reservation.

A number of Greek traditional recipes, combined with special plates like veal in “stamna” or “Asprolithos” chicken are offered here. Excellent service, along with a friendly atmosphere will allow you to enjoy these new flavours to the maximum.

It is located within an apartments complex by the same name and is a place grown with pines and planes, offering a warm and relaxing atmosphere far away from the busy and noisy harbour and town of Skiathos. The traditional plates suggested will certainly be remembered just like the wonderful interior built with stone and wood.
