Another mean of transport you should try is the water taxi. It leaves the old harbour every hour to Achladies bay, Kanapitsa beach and other popular beaches of the island. Costing only 2.00 € it is worth the effort. The last one departs from Skiathos old harbour at 11.45 p.m. to hotel Esperides (Achlaidies bay). Hiring a boat enables you to reach a lot of otherwise inaccessible corners of the island. You can rent a boat from the Skiathos marinas or a ski school. Prices vary from 60 € to 90 €. Another exotic way to do island hopping is chartering a yacht. It is much more expensive, although renting with a group of friends can save you a lot. Depending on your nautical qualifications, you can either take the helm yourself or let the crew do so. Theme: Ship/Boat

The winding main road on Skiathos by chazgilbert Skiathos island is relatively small, and simple to get around - there's one main road (see photo). We were strongly encouraged by our holiday company not to hire mopeds or motorbikes because it's pretty dangerous, apparently. We relied on the bus service and taxis for the week - or explored on foot. The bus is excellent value for money, although it can be extremely overcrowded, so be warned - especially if you head into Skiathos town between 6 and 8pm in July or August. The bus has 26 stops between Skiathos town and Koukounaries - costing 1 Euro 40 cents. Shorter journeys are only 1 Euro. The bus terminal is situated at the end of Skiathos town harbour, in the direction of the airport. At the other end, you catch the bus from Koukounaries beach car park. Taxis are generally slightly cheaper than in England - sometimes it's possible to barter. If you share a taxi with other people who you don't know, the driver will charge both sets of people the full fare. Flagging a taxi down is easy, you'll only have to wait a couple of minutes anywhere along the main road to catch one. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

by Susi_Blackforest You can't get lost in Skiathos, as there is only one bus that goes every 15 minutes. Bus station no. 1 is in Skiathos town and the bus ends in Koukouniaries, which is station no. 26. We stayed in Platanias which is station no. 16 and the return bus trip to Skiathos Town only cost 2 Euros. I think the last bus goes around 1 AM. Be aware that the bus can be over crowded from approx. 18-21PM, as a lot of people take the bus from Koukounaries back to Skiathos Town. But don't worry if you miss it, there are lots of taxis around and taxi drivers all speak English. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

With an amazing public bus service along the south coast of the island from the bus station on the harbor to Koukounaries with stops at the beaches in between, the island has a very well organised bus servise to display.Buses run at least six times daily from April to November; every hour from 9am to 9pm, May through October you will find a bus every half hour from 8:30am to 10pm June through September and the busiest tourist period every 20 minutes from 8:30am to 2:30pm and 3:30pm to midnight July through August. Also if you are interested in visiting the north coast beaches, neighbouring islands, and historic Kastro the caique(small boat) is your best bet which is both romantic and convenient. Theme: Bus

by Susi_Blackforest Be aware that the taxi drivers drive a bit mad on Skiathos! Ask the taxi driver how much your trip will be before you get into the taxi, as we have had one nasty surprise with one of them. Most of them were fine though. It is not unusual that a taxi driver already has 2 passengers in the taxi, but will stop for you to take you as well, if you flag him down. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

If you want to have the freedom to explore at your own leisure, renting a car or jeep is the choice for you. Most major international and local car rental companies offer a good choice of packages and competitive prices. The minimum legal age to rent a car is 18 years old and there is no maximum age restriction. The only other requirement in this regard is that you've held your valid driving license for at least a year. Whoever you rent from, be sure to check the insurance being offered. Full coverage is strongly recommended. So, arm yourself with a valid international license and a reliable road map and set out for the adventure of your life. Remember that traffic in Greece travels on the right side of the road. Theme: Car/Motor Home
