by MrGQ

A lot of the tourist shops are a tourist trap. Your best bet is go a bit more inland near ythe smaller towns. They tend to have more original goods at a much cheaper price. Also only in Greece as far as I know where the waiters main job is not to bring you food but to bring you to the resturant! How? By almost garbing you through the neck and wrestling inside and tying you up to the chair! :)Well not all resturants but a lot in the tourist area are fairly aggressive. So avoid the resturants in tourist area and you will get more ''original'' Greek food and much better and more friendly service!

by aeroarce

On our way back to Athens from Trikala on the regular stop at a service station in the middle of the trip, the driver left for athens without advise leaving 4 passengers (me on the list). So please, be sure that you control who is your driver and when is him leaving, he could leave and never care if is loosing someone on the way.

by SESM

As far as we were concerned Mykonos was one big tourist trap -- beautiful, picturesque, etc. but crowded with tourists, over priced (compared to other islands). For younger single folks, gay and straight, it probably is a gas given the night life and 'adult' beaches.

by luvtotravel

Previously I had read from internet that on Aegina Island there are 'golden sand beaches', the same was written about Perdika, the small town where we stayed. Well, maybe we were blind, but we really didn't find any sandy beaches, however it was an interesting experience to go swimming on rocks - and the water was cristal clear, so all in all, it was a lovely place.

Preferably do sight seeing yourself, most organized bus tours, are expensive, and take you to tourist traps like the sound and light shouw at the Acropolisor some uninteresting restaurant at the Plaka in Athens.

by ClareMich

In Pythagorian, the tourist boat trips. Be very careful when booking them, check out the day before how many people appear to be in the boat when it sets off. Whilst I was there on 1 occasion a woman fell overboard on a night trip, she was saved and taken to hospital. This was due to overcrowding on the boat.On another occasion, there was a very bad storm and the boat still set sail. It got caught in the storm and just about everyone was sea sick. The boat couldnt dock to the storm passed so everyone had to ride it out.Just keep your wits about you when booking any boat trips.

Generally for females, just beware of the normal night-club scene. A highly developed code of picking up exists (it has a name being Kamarki or fishing).hehe - enjoy, but don't expect everything said whilst 'fishing' to be true ;-)

by whitecliff

This tip applies to anyone who is booked on a package tour through there travel agent. When you get to your chosen destination(this includes Greece)you will be asked to attend a welcome meeting. Those who have been through this will know what im talking about. The reps will start to talk about saftey, things to see, things not to see etc, etc, etc, then they get down to the nitty gritty which is(EXCURSIONS).I feel quite strongly about this subject because some holiday reps do have the tendency to pressurise the holiday makers into booking one or more excursions through them, its a little bit like the old time share tactics. What im basically saying is the holiday rep is on a commission(bonus)for every excursion they sell.Im not saying this is wrong coz they are only trying to make a living like everybody else but sometimes this can be well over the top.If you are a first timer when it comes to...

When on Santorini I was eating at a restaurant in Thera. I ordered my dish and they brought me bread beforehand which happened often in Turkey where I had been previously. This time however they charged me for it which really upset me because it was crappy bread to boot!

by cra-c-kree

Of which islands and places do you think of, when you think of Greece? .... OK, don´t go there, choose authentic, smaller villages for your stay. The longer the distance to the next airport, the better! Go out for dinner, to be sure to get authentic (delicious) food.
