The boat ticket by SirRichard From Rhodes you can take a ferry that will take you to the turkish coast (Marmaris) in 1:50h. There are return tickets too, so you can make a daytrip and experience a bit of ASIA! Is it really so different? Although being a touristic place, Marmaris has some turkish flavour: mosques instead of orthodox churches, spices, oriental markets, and a similar (but not the same!) gastronomy. It reminded me crossing the Gibraltar strait from Spain to Morocco... 45 euros a "return the same day" ticket. 60 euros the open return. Leave a Comment

Akropolis Station by SirRichard Athens has an effective cheap and modern subway system. There are 3 lines: Green, red and blue. With the green you can go till Piraeus, the place from where ferries to the islands leave. Coming from the airport, there is a bus (E94) that takes you to Ethniko Amyna, in the blue line, so you can continue from there to anywhere in the centre. Some of the stations, specially those in touristic places, are really interesting. The Akropolis one has sculptures reproductions, ceramics... Leave a Comment

by Aurorae The most popular mean of transportation in Greece is motor bike. In huge city like Athens for example you're stuck with a car, and motor bike can pass everywhere :) You'll see heaps of motorcycles all over Greece, they are more frequent than birds and trees! They can be rented and ideal for roaming around when you are traveling, much cheaper than rent-a-car. Leave a Comment Theme: Motorcycle

At the airport by SirRichard Athens has a brand new airport, 27 kms northeast of the centre. The cheapest way to go to the city from there is by bus. There are mainly 3 buses, depending on where you wanna go: Syntagma Sq (City Center): take bus E95. Metro (to connect with other Metro stations): take bus E94. Piraeus (Ferries to the islands): take bus E96. Leave a Comment

We always hire a car when on holiday in Greece. We used to book this in England with a travel agent, using such companies as Hertz, Holiday Autos etc. and thought we were getting a good deal. We began to wonder about prices and turned to the internet. Here we found the Greek company, Pangosmio, who we have dealt with twice. They are cheaper than English companies, very prompt and efficient and none of this being charged extra during siesta time (Hertz - their office hours don't cover the afternoon, ridiculously). Pangosmio simply ask you for a deposit of about 30% of the total and you settle up swiftly when you arrive in Greece. They seem to operate throughout the country and will meet you at any airport or deliver to a location, at an extra cost. Leave a Comment

Ferry crossing the Gulf of Corinth by Paul2001 One of the frustrating things about traveling on the Greek Mainland is dealing with the lack of cordination between bus lines, ferries and railways. My trip from Delphi to Corinth is the best example I had come across of this problem. I visited the tourist office in Delphi to get the times for intended journey and the clerk there simply handed me a card with all the times that the buses, trains and ferries were scheduled for. When my bus left Delphi in the morning at around 9am it was a start of a very lengthly journey nearly nine hours long. The first problem was that even a seemingly short journey by bus takes a lot of time because the bus stops a every little village along the way. The bus took nearly two hours to get to the tiny village where it is suppose to meet the ferry across the Gulf of Corinth. You would think that they would schedule the bus to arrive at the ferry dock a few minutes before the ferry departed. Not in Greece. As soon as the bus arrived I could see that the ferry had just departed which meant I would have to wait for the ferry to cross the Gulf and then come back. This took something like two hours or more. The ferry trip across the Gulf of Corinth is actually quite pleasant. Once across I was suppose to catch a train that would take me to Corinth. This meant more sitting around waiting for about ninety minutes. Trains in Greece are not pleasant compared to the rest of Europe. They are old and dirty but at least it did get me to Corinth by about 6pm. The one problem with all of this is that when I went looking for a hotel in Corinth and choice picks were full. I ended up in staying in the most expensive place in town for the two nights I spent in Corinth. Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/Boat

Leaving Naxos by boat by SirRichard Ferries are my favourite way to move around Greece and Island Hopping is a fantastic alternative to visit as many islands as you can. I like to take the first ferry as I arrive in Athens and go to the furthest island. From there I take another one and so on, just deciding "on-the-fly". Schedules are not always fix in ferries, but you can have an idea at the following web: Leave a Comment
