Friendly Greeks...

by Yiannis2000

...are outraged by the invasion of Iraq, that the Alliance of the Coerced has implemented.Tighter security throughout Greece gives us a feeling of safety, no serious threats against this country have been heard from any side. Greece is also far from the war zone so there's no danger. If you are an american travelling to the area, you will not face any immediate problems in Greece.BUT if you sympathise with the US administration and have the need to express your feelings... you may face a more hostile behaviour... Note also that many people demonstrate outside the US Embassy in Athens and other US consular offices throughout the country.

Gypsy warning.

by TravelObsessed

Be careful in Athens. There are Gypsies there selling everyting from roses to decorative fans. Usually while you are trying to have an outdoor meal in the Platka. According to a friend of mine who lives in Athens the roses are taken from graves and the other items are cheaply made.

IT'S ALL GREEK TO ME !

by LysDor

IT'S ALL GREEK TO MEIt's always useful to know few words in the local language: Ego = I or Me Esi = You Aftos/Afti = He / She Ya = Hi or Bye depending on context Efxaristo = Thank you Kalimera = Good morning Kalinichta = Good night Katalaveno = I don't understand Pame = Let's go Parakalo = You're welcomeTi kanis = How are you Fayito = FoodNero = Water Pou = Where Resta = Change (money) Spiti = Home Aftokinito = Car Kalo = Good ..................................................................DID YOU NOW THAT : Greeks are apparently among the world's most active lovers? (BEWARE LADIES) and NO OFFENCE TO ANYONE :-) having sexual contact once every three days on average, according to a worldwide survey on sexual behavior. Ranking fourth in terms of sexual contact frequency, Greeks were topped only by the Americans, Russians and the French. Moreover, at a time when the world average in...

Ask about Hot Water Shower

by evancheong

This is neither a danger nor warning but its a 'Must ask' question when you check in to 1 of those hotels in the islands.Always ask if there is UNLIMITED hot water. Some hotels use Solar energy to heat up their water system. During Winter there isn't much sun so there is a limited amount of hot water you can use during each shower. Don't end up like me, running out of hot water in the middle of my shower when the temperature outside is 0 degree. That is a very bad and unforgetable experience.

Tip Photo
Check out time is 11am

by evancheong

Make sure you find out the check out time of the hotels you are staying as many of the hotels' check out time is 11am and not 12pm.If you check out 1-2hrs later than the prescribed time, they may ripped you off by asking to be paid 50% of the room rate as compensation. Many times you can just give them 5-8€ and just leave.

TEL : 22650-82220- Kalambaka : 33, Ramidi St. TEL : 24310-22813 - Nafplio : 16, Fotomara Str. TEL : 27520-28131- Pireaus : 43, Akti Miaouli st. TEL : 210-4523670

Disembarking from the ferries

by SirRichard

In most of the islands ferries you have to disembark from the back part of the boat. Pay attention to the floor when going down, as there might be ropes and parcels on the floor. Not that is really very dangerous, but you can slip and something might fall into the water...

Beware of strikes!

by happymom8285

Before heading out to any museum, archeological site or other government run area, make sure they are open! Do your homework and make sure there isn't a "planned" strike for whatever reason. This happened to us in 2 different places: Santorini and Corinth. Ask your hotel desk clerk. They will usually know. Sometimes the strikes only last a couple days, but if you're only in a place for that long, it could be bad news especially if you've driven a long way only to discover the place is shut down. Strikes could happen at any time, taxis, trains, ferries. Our taxi driver had told us of a taxi strike that would be happening, so we knew not to count on one.

Once you have entered the world of the greek cabbies (most crazy any where in the world)your life is no longer your own and now i think of it the bus drivers are worse if possible.they speed pay little attention to road laws if any? abuse other drivers and take amazing risks.JUST THINKING ABOUT IT MAKES ME WANT TO DO IT AGAIN ITS SUCH A RUSH WOW.The biggest problem outside that with cabs is the imoral cabbies who prrey on the tourist in area's like the ports .I was lucky i made very good friends with hotel staff who advised me before using cabs at the ports area.they try every trick in the book such as getting 2 people to share the same cab to almost the same place but pay seperate fare's .not to mention trying not to use metre's and talk you into a fair they say is very fare and better than a metred fair.many people are returing from long ferry trips are tired worn out and just dying...
