Kalamata airport is a military airport, hence so few flights.
English flights all arrive on a Sunday, with Excel, Mytravel, Thomas Cook,Astraeus and Air Malta flying from Manchester, Gatwick, Birmingham and East Midlands (sometimes!!!)
The Dutch and Czech folks arrive on a Monday, Tuesday is Germany and Greece's turn, Wednesday is Finland and Sweden, Thursday the Norwegians, Czech and Danes arrive, Friday is Greek time and Saturdays yet more Swedes and Norwegians. So there you are.
Interestingly enough, no flights from Switzerland or Athens.Swiss folks have to drive from Athens to this area.
For those lucky (or unlucky) enough to live in the south of England, there are cheaper flights to Athens with Easyjet and the likes.
Strictly NO photography allowed at the airport.

Simply Greece holidays to Gialova all include car hire and you drive yourselves to your resort from the airport. The car provided with the package corresponds with the number of people in your party. We were three so this would be a two door Renault Twingo. We really needed a four door car so enquired with Simply Travel what the cheapest four door would be. We were told a Corsa and it would be two grades up, hence another £70 odd. No way!! I then looked on Europcar Greece site (Europcar being the provider) and worked out that for only £30 we could get a four door car, so opted to only upgrade one notch.
We arrived at Kalamata and my fingers were tightly crossed, praying there would be a four door car waiting for us. As it turned out, it was a four door 1.1 Corsa and a brilliant little car. So, no need to step up two grades, don't listen to Simply Greece.
No problems whatsoever. Make a note of how full the petrol is. It should be full on collection and full on return. Ours was only a quarter full so we made sure it was written on the contract and returned it in a similar state. All was well.

Situated on the outskirts of Gialova, heading north. Martin has a tourist shop/mini-market that sells mainly beach and outdoor stuff. He also has got into the business of hiring bicycles by the hour, day, week, etc.
Gialova is very flat and ideal for biking (if you have the stamina in the heat) and it is a great way of getting round the lagoon. The tracks here are all dirt and in fact, I think cars are prohibited on some. The nearby beach of Divari/Golden beach can also be easily reached, as can Voidokilia.
Having a car, we did not need to hire bikes, nor would I have had the energy. It's been a while since I've been on a push-bike.....
Not sure of the rental prices but it seemed to be popular, being the only place in Gialova.
