Shopping in Herm is pretty much limited to the two gift shops and a general store.
The Italianate gift shops incorporate a Post Office with a full Guernsey Post Service.
The Mermaid Tavern has a snack bar with a small attached general store. You can stock up on supplies for a walk, or top up your groceries if staying in the self catering cottages, although you can also pre-order for your stay if booking the cottages.
What to buy: The shops are particularly for beach goods, Herm Island branded gifts and clothing, and what remain of the stock of stamps issued locally until the 1960s. The local post service closed, but the shop still stocks sets and covers that may be of interest to anyone interested in philately.

Herm's gift shops have a reputation for providing interesting and good value items. From jewellery to clothes, vases to toys and beach goods, chocolates and souvenirs. The shops are set in a Mediterranean style piazza which was built by a team of Italian builders and craftsmen in the 1960's. This adds great character to the harbour front and fits in well with the white washed and pastel coloured cottages. The small post office sells fascinating Herm Island stamps and First Day Covers which have become collectors items all over the world.
