Market Kitchen: Fresh, contemporary food and a great atmosphere

by lizziewarr

Market Kitchen is a great blend of high quality, freshly prepared restaurant food, combined with a friendly relaxed and informal atmophere which makes it the perfect place for meals with friends, a business lunch, or just meeting up for a coffee (and fab home made cake!).We visited in August when it was possible to sit outside in the sunshine of the market square and watch the world go by, but the tables inside are equally comfortable - the location is perfect, central but relaxed. The service is friendly and efficient without being obtrusive - the owner and her team were available to tell us about the philosophy of the restaurant and also about the quality and sourcing of the (all local) food, and about how it was cooked.Coming from London where we are spoilt for really great places to eat, Market Kitchen met all our quality standards and expectations (and indeed exceeded them for being...

Market Kitchen: Yum! High quality locally grown and produced food

by GenevieveLang

The Market Kitchen really has the best location in town. There is only one public square in St Peter Port, and only one restaurant in that square. The al-fresco area is stylish and there is often live music playing. If the sun is out it's magical. The emphasis is on fresh, seasonal, local food. The quality of produce is high so the prices are not the cheapest I town, but you get what you pay for. If you want locally grown tomatoes and bass caught that morning you have to appreciate it costs a little more than frozen ingredients bought in en masse.Everything I ate was delicious, so I highly recommend a visit! They also serve great coffee and cakes, and wines so you can pop by for a drink even if a whole meal isn't needed. I liked the tapas. It was served stylishly on a huge piece of slate. There were 5 small dishes and some Italian bread to dip into the olive oil. Very delicious, very...

Da Nello: A piece of Italy in Guernsey

by paul.guillou

Da Nello is a well established Italian Restaurant in The Lower Pollet. It's decor has developed over more than 20 years and is a perfect piece of Italy conveniently located in Guernsey. Staff are extremely professional and the quality of food is of the highest standard. Da Nello is reputed to be the best restaurant in Guernsey. I always have the fillet steak. It is perfect - a joy to eat. Well worth the money.

La Piazza: Great Italian

by Denet

This small but comfortable Italian restaurant is tucked away in a courtyard in Trinity Square, St Peter Port. The service is excellent and the food is even better. Well known for their seafood but its all good.

White Rock Cafe: Greasy Spoon Cafe

by Jasen71

Well most parts of Great Britain have em! The good old greasy spoon cafes, and in St peter port Guernsey has one to. The White Rock Cafe is frequented by the builders and locals for a good old fry up, or a good english breakfast. A no frills sort of place, and ideal for those on a budget or just students! I had a really good gammon steak, with chips, baked beans and a fried egg on top (sunny side down)..hhmmmm £5

Prince of Wales Bar: Cool watering hole

by rexvaughan

This is not a restaurant, but a bar. I could not see a name on it anywhere, but it is beneath the Prince of Wales restaurant so I assume it is their bar. It is a small, sleek and modern place and there were lots of locals gathering for an afternoon libation. We, as usual, were the senior citizens of the crowd and I soon drew the attention of the whole crowd. All the tables have little candles on them, and whilst trying to read my map, it caught fire from one of them. It was quickly extinguished and the barmaid smiled and said she was glad not to call the fire brigade. The drinks were good and it is a convenient stop from the High Street, the Guernsey Tapestry and the Museum and Gardens.

Cafe Victoria: Nice soup on a cool day

by rexvaughan

This is the cafe attached to the Guernsey museum and has snack type meals - sandwiches, soups, etc. It also has a lovely view of the park and the bay. It was a cool day so we stopped for split pea and ham soup. It was a delicious light lunch.

Vazon Bay Hotel Restaurant: More than British cuisine

by rexvaughan

This is a very pleasant and attractive restaurant but with an informal atmosphere. The food is outstanding and the staff very attentive. It caters primarily to hotel guests I think but there were a number of locals there as well. The people in the photo were friends - one couple from England and the other from Guernsey. I included them because their happy gathering seemed to reflect the atmosphere of the place. The man from Guernsey later came over to our table to greet us and ask where we were from. He was most pleasant and added to our enjoyment of the meal. We had a wonderful meal: for starters I had a Brussels pate (I don't know what makes is "Brussels) baked in a puff pastry and set on red currant jelly and my wife had deep fried brie and camembert with date and apple chutney. In both cases the mixture of savory and sweet was wonderful. She had herb crusted haddock and I had pork...
