Before 1989 most people who could avoid it steered clear of eastern European airlines. Certainly, Malév did not have a very good rep; indeed, I flew them once or twice years ago in noisy, badly pressurized Ilyushin 18s, which were truly awful. This has all changed. Malév has gotten rid of all its old planes and now uses state-of-the-art Boeing 737-800s on their intra-European flights. If I had the opportunity, I'd have no hesitation flying them from the US or Canada, figuring that I would be kept quite happy all the way. On-board service is very good: friendly, swift, and positively solicitous.

Airplane, and airport minibus is really good way to get to/from your accomodation.
Metro is the best way. I recommend also metro trips to somewhere you haven't ever been. You may find something nice to tell your friends about.

An airport coach link is operated between the city centre (Budapest V., Erzsébet tér, bus terminal) and the air terminals every 30 minutes from 5.30am to 9pm. Between the airport and Erzsébet tér services also leave every 30 minutes from 6am to 10pm. You can buy tickets on the bus. Fare: 800 HUF.
The Air Traffic and Airport Administration operates fixed-route taxis (Airport minibuses) between the two terminals and any address. Fare (within Budapest): 1800 HUF, return: 3300 HUF. To order the service call: phone - 296-8555, fax - 296-8993.
The local bus service number 93 runs between the Metro terminal Kõbánya-Kispest

By plane. Its cheaper and faster (unless you are in Austria)
When you arrive, buy the Budapest card 1st then book the airport transfer coz it will give you 10% discount with the card!! (The 2 counters are just beside each other)
By metro mostly.
From the castle district, take the bus...any bus will get you down the hill to a nearby metro station.

You will probably arrive at Ferihégy airport. The easiest and cheapest way to get into the city is by Airport Minibus. Go to the counter in the airport terminal and for 1500 HUF (about GBP 4 or USD 6) you will be taken to your hotel or wherever you like. You can also book to have them pick you up and take you back to the airport.

To get to Budapest we hopped aboard an AA flight to Heathrow. The flight was ontime and comfortable. I had time to read and listen to some music while Liz passed out for her usual in-flight slumber.
