 | Budapest Fatal Restaurant Reviews | Tips 31 - 40 of 61 | | Restaurant 'FATAL' (in Hungarian it means Wooden Platter). It's quite a new place founded about in 1995. The courses are served in traditional dishes, almost every menu is placed in a different kind of a dish. So don't order too much (like more than 3 courses), otherwise you'll leave a lot of food on your plates. But, don't worry, the remains can be taken away in a 'Doggy bag'. So don't miss this place whenever in town. Prices are a little bit above average, but for that amount of money you'll get a very big quantity of food.
There is a wide range of menus from the Hungarian and European cuisine. Theme: OtherDirections: It's located in the Southern part of Vaci Street, which is Budapest's main touristic street on Pest side.Other Contact: The phone number is: 266-2607. Y

They had great food and amazingly large portions. I was on Weight Watcher's (HAH!) when I went to Budapest, so my appettite and ability to eat huge portions was diminished. My mother and I had planned to have a few beers and an appetizer and then share an entree. They would not let us share, though. The waiter wasn't very friendly and he informed us that we were required to order an entree for each person. My mother and I decided not to get an appetizer and limit our drinks to only one since we knew we wouldn't have the appetite for more. Well, a few mintues later, two guys came in who were hungarian and one of them didn't order anything and the same waiter said nothing. Right after them, soem Spanish kids came in and were told the same thing my mother and I were. I think they only make the tourists order an entree each. Anyway, the food was good, so good we did recommend it to another couple on our tour. Service was slow and not too friendly, but my mother and I would definitely go back.
Hungarian sauerkraut was my mother and my favorite. It isn't extremely sour like the German, doesn't have too much juniper like the Austrian, and isn't as creamy and bland as the Czech type. It was had a nice bit of paprike (as all hungarian food seemed to) and was just the right mixture of sour and sweet. YUMMY! This restaurant was recommended to me by several VT and other people ,mainly for the size of the portions, and ,People, they are BIG , we went back twice and ordered different things each time. The foo d was excellent and the portions unbelievable . a most pleasant dining experience for a very good price.

While they CLAIM that they are fatal, I found them to be quite pleasant, actually. ;-) Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: 67 Vaci Utca st.Directions: on the "Pest" side

it's downstairs, cozy atmosphere, mostly male waiters (or at least only male waiters the day i was there). my friend and i found it by accident while walking down the streets and our tummies were growling, and this place definitley satisfied our appetite. all the food is served either on wooden platters (which is what fatal means from what i've been told) or in the pots that cooked the meal. elegantly served - very pretty - we took pictures before we could start to eat!
i can't remember what i had specifically, but it included LOTS of good meat and fresh veggies cooked perfectly. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Vaci Utca streetDirections: on the "Buda" side

One night a group of us went to a restuarant on Vaci street called Fatal. The restuarant is down underground and although the service was pretty slow the food certainly was great and came in huge portions. It was also very resonably priced. Because of its location in the cellars it has a wonderful vaulted roof which adds to the atmosphere. Went back again in August 2005, this time in a party of 12. This time the service was very good and the food came in monumental portions, yet was still very tasty Leave a Comment Theme: LocalAddress: Vaci Utca 67 (off Pinter Utca)
