Very nice and quiet coffehouse 2 min walk from the Parliament.
While walking in Falk Miksa Str, you would be suprised how many antique shops take place in one street, actually you might find I think up to ten.

Entering Picard will cause you a little suprise, because the place looks really small, but has a very happy atmosphere, and there are a wide range of meals. Cant even choose what to eat: toasted ciabbatta or salad or baked vegetables or maybe home made cakes.

I recommend to have breakfast in Picard with fresh croissant and coffe au lait:-)

(and dont be suprised if you meet some Hungarian celebrities. but you go to Picard to ffel good and not for be seen.)

Favorite Dish: I love brown ciabatta with prosciutto and mozarella and tomato... it is huge, fresh and beautiful!!

It is a great place to eat, though we had a bad experience with the waiter. Wouldnt mention it if it wasnt because I read the same in a previous tip.

Favorite Dish: wouldnt call it the favourite dish, but try the wienerschnitzel. It is HUGE!

Just go for a main dish unless you are very very hungry.

Fatal Restaurant: excellent meal

The place is in an old basement, lighting is low level but the crowd is loud enough that it gives the place a feeling of openess.
This was an excellent place to dine. The good thing was that the portions were huge and very filling all served on a wooden plate. Staff was pretty friendly, the only thing that I thought they could improve on was that they should hire female waitresses and budapest has a lot of beautiful women.
But over all a great place to eat and relax.

Favorite Dish: Cant specify witch one they were all good.

Cosy little restaurant with a really relaxed atmosphere.
It's the perfect place to introduce yourself to Hungarian food, there's lots of choice on the menu and the portions are huge!!!

Favorite Dish: I had steak which (thank god!) came up in not too big a portion! It was really good.
Some peoples portions were seriously huge!

Receipt of Fatal

On my first day in Budapest VT member Nykaenen and me met for a dinner VT meeting. After checking a few restaurants we decided to go to Fatal, where Nykaenen had already been before.
Fatal is Hungarian for "wooden plate", which is what they usually place under your dish here. The restaurant is a bit touristy, but the Hungarian portions are big, tasty and affordable.

Fatál: Great food in the center

Fatl's entrance

Fatál (not to be mistaken by the femme fatale, since "fatál" is a hungarian word meaning "wooden plate") is a place with great atmosphere and good Hungarian and international cuisine. Prices are a bit higher then average, but they are reasonable for the quality you get.

The place is open from 11:30 AM until 2:00 AM.

Favorite Dish: Don't know just try some Hungarian thing :)

FATAL: Tons of food!

They had great food and amazingly large portions. I was on Weight Watcher's (HAH!) when I went to Budapest, so my appettite and ability to eat huge portions was diminished. My mother and I had planned to have a few beers and an appetizer and then share an entree. They would not let us share, though. The waiter wasn't very friendly and he informed us that we were required to order an entree for each person. My mother and I decided not to get an appetizer and limit our drinks to only one since we knew we wouldn't have the appetite for more. Well, a few mintues later, two guys came in who were hungarian and one of them didn't order anything and the same waiter said nothing. Right after them, soem Spanish kids came in and were told the same thing my mother and I were. I think they only make the tourists order an entree each. Anyway, the food was good, so good we did recommend it to another couple on our tour. Service was slow and not too friendly, but my mother and I would definitely go back.

Favorite Dish: Hungarian sauerkraut was my mother and my favorite. It isn't extremely sour like the German, doesn't have too much juniper like the Austrian, and isn't as creamy and bland as the Czech type. It was had a nice bit of paprike (as all hungarian food seemed to) and was just the right mixture of sour and sweet. YUMMY!

I'm SOOO FULL!!!!!!

Don't let the name deter you from dining here! Fatal actually means wooden plate. The only thing that is related to the name is how fatally full you will be! Located in Pest, it is easily accessible and has great food at a reasonable price. I've been twice and both experiences where great. Massive portions (see picture)!!! The only downfall was the service, it took incredibly long to get the another drink and getting the bill took ages. Other than that if you're not pressed for time, I definately recommend this restaurant!

Favorite Dish: I would have to say the Potato casserole was good and also the chicken schnitzel was good as well....

Huge portions!

The striking fact about Fatal, were the size of the portions! They were incredible big, impossible to finish them. I found out (unfortunately too late) that you can ask for what was left to be packed so that you can take it away.
There was menu in english and also the personnel spoke english.
And everything at a very good price.

Serves huge hungarian meals with a minimum of fuss to flocks of tourists.
Meals are gigantic but you end up paying for it. Waiters could politely be described as " abrupt " it's a nightmare ordering a drink , so that's it down to one star then!

Favorite Dish: The fish wrapped in cheese and bacon and deep fried , i saw Scottish people complaining it was unhealthy.
