My friend and I ate at Happy Kinai Bufe one lunchtime during a visit to Budapest in January 2008.
This small Chinese buffet restaurant is located opposite Keleti railway station in the Pest region of the city.
All of the food is laid out in trays behind a glass counter and, as all the descriptions were in Hungarian, we resorted to pointing at the dishes that we fancied. There was a large choice of soups, noodles, fried rice, chicken, beef, seafood and vegetable stir fries.
I opted for fried noodles and a chicken stir fry with carrots, peas and lots of onions, with a bottle of Cappy fruit juice to drink. The noodles were excellent and tasty, the chicken was good quality and very well cooked (far better than I might have expected from a budget buffet restaurant) and the portions were large. My only complaint is that the stir fry contained too many (and very strong) onions, and the taste of those overpowered the rest of the meal.
The total cost of the meal and drink was 960 HUF / 3.20 GBP, so it was very good value for money.
A simple Chinese buffet restaurant with good value noodles and stir fries.
If you like chinese food, you are lucky to be in Budapest. You will find many small restaurants all around the city. Of course, instead of traditional chinese food, something adjusted to western appetite is served. But still, they are delicious and very cheap. As portions are also big, with only a plate of noodles and chicken, you will be full. Give a try to one of these small restaurants, you won't regret.
