Nagyi Palacsintazoja - Granny's Pancake Restaurant: Granny's pancake is the best :)
Nagyi palacsintazoja (Granny's pancakery) started in a small panckae restaurant near Moszkva square (in front of the Shell gas station on Szena square - Hattyu street 16). The original restaurant still exist but now Granny has more pancake restaurants in the city.
The best is the one on Batthianyi ter. If you happen to go there in good weather and can sit outside, you will have a nice view on the Castle and on the Parliament at the same time.
There are sweet and salty pancakes as well, you just have to mix them right :)
Favorite Dish: My favourite is the "Ocsi menu" (young brother menu) which consist of 2 salty (champignon and cheese) and 2 sweet (chocolate) pancakes and a soda :)
Nagyi Palacsintazoja - Granny's Pancake Restaurant: Quick cheap meal
I think there are several of these places around Budapest, we ate at the one near the Batthyany Ter metro station as it was very close to our hotel.
Ask the staff for an English menu that they keep behind the counter and mull over the delicious sounding choices for both savoury and dessert pancakes.
They make the pancakes up while you are standing there so it's very quick service. There's plenty of seating indoors and a few tables outside.
Favorite Dish: We tried several savoury pancakes-ham and mushroom, hungarian stew and cheese fried with breadcrumbs. Three were plenty to split between the two of us. I enjoyed the first two, the cheese fried with breadcrumbs wasn't as good.
Onto dessert, I tried the layered pancake with chocolate and cream and David tried one with jam.
The whole meal cost us 1800 ft (about $9US) so it was a real bargain.
On our 2nd visit we just stopped for dessert and we tried a pancake with banana, topped with chocolate & vanilla pudding, whipped cream, cherries, a dash of nutella and sprinkles for about 400 ft, a real gut buster for only $2US!!! I've taken a picture of it so you can see how truly massive it was!
Nagyi Palacsintazoja - Granny's Pancake Restaurant: All Kinds of Crepes
A small cafe on Batthyany Square (there's usually an open-air fruit and vegetable market in the center of the Square). It's located directly across the river from Parliament. It is small and there is usually a line but it moves fast and they have an English menu, just ask for it.
Favorite Dish: They have savory as well as dessert crepes, but I'd recommend the later. The former are not very filling. Any of the sweet crepes are scrupmtious. Order several varieties and share!
Nagyi Palacsintazoja - Granny's Pancake Restaurant: Perfect Hungarian Pancakes
This nice little pancake restaurant (or let's say, cafe) is situated right by the Batthyány Square market hall, opposite the Parliament (on the Buda side).
This place is extremely popular, therefore its little terrace is open even in wintertime! Though there are crowds of people inside, the view still reminds of a family meeting, thanks to the surroundings.
Actually there are approx. 50-80 seats in this restaurant, including terrace and gallery.
The main food profile of Nagyi Palacsintazoja is pancake (crepe) with some 40-50 flavours, but they also have the usual cafe products - coffee-type drinks, cakes, etc.
The system of service is similar to fastfood restaurants, so there are no waiters.
You can find Nagymama Palacsintazoja at a number of other locations in the city: near Aquincum, in Petofi Sandor utca at Szervita ter or in the Hill area (District XII) at Kiralyhago ter.
Favorite Dish: My favorite 'dish' is chestnut pancake and I was satisfied with the Milky Way-flavored one as well. The dish was nicely ornamented with chocolate and its real attraction was its fantastic 'bouqet'.
What I did not try personally but would definitely try is the original Hungarian 'Hortobagy Pancake' - this salty pancake is something that no-one should miss tasting when in Hungary.
Nagyi Palacsintazoja: Delicious stuffed pancakes
This pancake place is a very good alternative for lunch or dinner. They serve pancakes with a whole range of different kinds of stuffing: chicken stew, spinach, chocolate, ham & cheese, ... . They taste very good and 4 or 5 are good for a full meal. For about 1500 forint you can eat here with 2 people, drinks included.
According to our B&B-host it's open 24/24.
Favorite Dish: Pancake with Hungarian stew.
Nagyi Palacsintazoja: District I: Pancakes
Fast food - hungarian style. Pancakes, pancakes and more pancakes. Sweet pancakes, savoury pancakes and pancakes stuffed with pancakes. There's a few of them around Budapest, but the one on Batthyany Ter has great views out over the Parliament from the exterior seats.
It's great value, but very heavy and filling, like all Hungarian food. The savoury pancakes could really use some fresh salad to lighten the palate, but that is anathema to Hungarian cooking. Just mix them up as much as you can and add a sweet one to the end of the meal.
They have an English menu, but if you can fathom what "Mexican meat" is, let me know. I assume the Hungarians are at a loss also, as that is the direct translation.
Nagyi Palacsintazoja - Granny's Pancake Restaurant: Granny was having a face lift outside
All sorts of various 'Palacsinta', (CREPES) I think they have
more sorts of sweet and savourary palacsinta than
any place I have visited since my 10 year stay in Budapest.
It's location is great being on the square on the other side of the
Danube opposite the parliment, so you have a great view if
the traffic fumes don't bug you.
Open all day and night.
Tasty but a little more pricey than usual
palacsinta places, but still cheap for tourists.
Can be a bit of a queue sometimes!
Nice to grab a table outside and enjoy the view.
There's a big market/mall/supermarket next door too.
I like the savoury palacsinta with
cheese and meat.
Lots to choose from

Nagyi Palacsintazoja - Granny's Pancake Restaurant: Non-Stop Delicious Pancakes
Have a look at danbp's tip about this restaurant! It is located just the other side of the square at Batthyany Ter metro station on the red line. There is a lovely view across to the Parliament building from the upper level of the cafe (mind the stairs and the low beams!) and it's a great place to stop and reflect on your way up to, or down from, Castle Hill. Everything seems to be reasonably priced and the service is very quick.
Favorite Dish: I also had a chestnut pancake and it was DELICIOUS!! If you don't have a sweet tooth, there are also savoury fillings available which seemed to be just as popular.
Nagyi Palacsinta: Great palacsinta!
You will find several of these around Budapest. I ate at three different ones on the Buda side. Two in particular were the one at Batthany Square and one that was two blocks from Mammut Shopping center. Both were great, inexpensive, and tasted wonderful. I highly recommend it.
Nagyi Palacsintázója: Palacsintá like Granny used to make
Nagyi Palacsintázója or Granny's Pancakes is right on Batthyany ter. near the Red line metro station. I marked it as dessert, although they serve savory as well as sweet palacsintá. Pleasant casual ambiance. Like many cafes in older buildings there is a mezzanine level. There are several of these shops in Budapest.
Favorite Dish: The one pictured:)
Nagyi Palacsintazoja - Granny's Pancake Restaurant: You'll just love those pancakes!
Sort of a pancake fastfood, you're going to love the way they work with pancakes. All sorts of combinations, some of which literally unimaginable, are going to open up in front of you when you open the menu. Ask for an english menu, they usually have it behind the counter, hungarian menus won't be much of a help... Also, there's more than one of those restaurants, except the one listed here, I ate in one to the far north of the city, near the big shopping center whose name I constantly keep forgetting :)
Favorite Dish: I loved the sechuan pancakes :) Sharp and spicy, but really really good! Sweet menu choice, choosing between several "family name" menus combining sweet and sour pancakes!
