Traditional dancers

Had a wonderful time here. Excellent food and drink with traditional Hungarian dancers and performers on stage and violinists make the rounds. Audience participation was hilarious. The restaurant is made up of two long wine storage catacombs. I think you can only see the performance on the one side so be specific when you book that you want to see the stage.

Favorite Dish: Had becsi szelet which is like a schnitzel but Hungarian Style. Very tender and tasty. Crisp coating and not greasy.

kehli restaurant...outside the nice yard!

Great hungarian fare! It is very traditional restaurant. In summer you can sit outside in a nice yard. I was there for lunch with family after I a hungarian friend suggested this restaurant to me. They have menu in english and german too, however we were the only tourist at the restaurant...several hungarians there.

Favorite Dish: We ate the lamb goulash with polenta. The beef goulash and some other beef dish I cannot remember the name. All of it was great and the portions are huge!
We were there with our little dog and the waiter brought some meat for her too :)

The price is not budget but the food is worth it!!!

I heard from my friend that in the evenings they have music sometimes...

Brasserie Gellert lunch

This is the "less fancy" of the restaurants inside the Gellert Hotel, also famous for its Baths. We had my son's 30th birthday lunch here, including a lovely chicken paprikash, seafood pasta, a braised leg of rabbit, and other homemade Hungarian specialities served in a professional, classic restaurant...Also had a lovely Dreher beer...It was everything we wanted in a special celebration, and the bill for 5 of us was around $100--very reasonable for the quality and amount of food!

Favorite Dish: Leg of rabbit

Iz-É Faloda: A self-service restaurant with traditional food

This place reminds a little of the Milk Bars you had in some eastern european countries. Indeed, the food served in this self-service restaurant is rather traditional. Meat dishes like goulash, fözelek (an old-fashioned dish, mainly consisting of peas, usually served with thin stripes of meat) and soups are the main things available. The restaurant becomes crowded during lunch time, so it’s quite hard to find a seat then. And unfortunately, few speak english there. I was so proud that I ordered my food in hungarian until the first question came – and I understood really nothing…. Luckily, a young guy behind the counter was able to translate. Otherwise, I would still be in that queue without an idea what the lady wanted from me…

Favorite Dish: I had Fözelek with small stripes of beef. The dish was hearty and filling. I couldn’t think of a better way to get an impression of hungarian food than joining Budapest’s working population and eat the same they do during their daily lunch break.

Delirium Tremens: Traditional Hungarian, Serb and Transylvanian food

The restaurant

Local restaurant only 50 meters from the Art'Otel on the Buda side. Great staff and very nice food at bargain prices. Serves breakfast from 10-12 o'clock. This restaurant was a very positive experience. It has a nice terrace outside with superb view of the Parliament and the Chain Bridge. Mostly visited by locals and tourists staying at the nearby Art'Otel it was one of the most popular restaurants in the area. The restaurant specializes in traditional food from Hungary, Serbia and Transylvania and the food is delicious! 3 courses for 2 people came at 7500 florints without wine which is a real bargain.

Favorite Dish: The restaurant also has a small bar and had a wide cocktail list with happy hours.

Pertu Station: Nice simple food

Not a great picture sorry!

Sat outside in the restuaurant which got very busy when I went (around 8 pm)
I started with goulash soup (paprika flavour sauce with meat, potato and carrot) served with bread. Main corse was steak served with roasted potatoes, goose liver and peas in a paprika sauce.
Washed this down with some Hungarian wine and finished with a coffee

Unlike some restaurants, gratuities are not included in the bill, if you want to tip, add about 10-15% to the cost.

When the underground train stations underwent a renovation, Pertu Station got a a few fixtures and fittings, lamp posts and rails. These are displayed in the restuarant

Favorite Dish: Great meat based stews.
There are some good value set menus from 2900 HUF (about £7) expect something similar to:
Palinka
Goulash soup
Hungarian style Chicken breast
Strudel with cherry and apple

Paprika, of course :): Fun Hungarian Restaurant near Heroes Square

Paprika restaurant near Hosok Ter.

The inside of this restaurant is decorated like a log cabin. Two things of note: there is air conditioning and a separate smoking section. Both big pluses in my book. Food is good and reasonably priced. You can try traditional favorites such as paprikash and gulyas or you can be more adventurous and have some wild game dishes like wild boar. Cheap beer. Big portions. All in all a very nice experience.

Favorite Dish: I had the chicken paprikash and thought it was quite good. My companions had the wild boar. It wasn't my favorite but that may have had more to do with the black currant sauce they served it in.

Csarda: You must eat Gulyas (Goulash)

McDonalds in Budapest

Hungary is the place to eat the tastiest food you ever had in your life, guaranteed.

The only food comes close to Hungarian with taste, is Croatian. Prepare your self for some heavy, meaty stuff with loads of paprika and spices. Its worth it. You will work it off at Weight Watchers when you come back, home!
.

Favorite Dish: I would like to take this opportunity to introduce some very traditional Hungarian dishes to you.
Just a brief intro. #1 Gulyas. This is not a stew. Some people think that Goulash is a stew like meaty food. It is not. It is spelled Guly?s. It is a soup with some kind of meat and paprika. Lot of spices and potatoes or home noodles called Nokedli. Gulyas can be made of many kind of meat, like Pork, beef, Chicken, lamb and the combination of these. The stew like food you know as Goulash is actually called Porkolt! Keep this in mind when you are ordering food in Hungary.

You must also try these dishes. I am not going into great details, just names.

#2 Csulkos Pacal,
#3 Rantott Hekk,
#4 Tyuk husleves,
#5 Tejfolos Csirke paprikas,
#6 Halaszle,
#6 Toltottkaposzta,
#7 Pacal,
#8 Toros kaposzta,
#9 Kolozsvari kaposzta
10 Porkolt,
11 Brassoi,
12 Rantott szelet,
13 Babgulyas csulokkel,
14 Fasirozott,
15 Rizseshus,
16 Toltott karalabe,
17 Rakott krumpli

Wine is affordable and they have a huge selection of them. Order wine for your food. You won't regret it. Guaranteed.
If you do, there is always good old Mc Donalds for ya.

Ps: We do not eat in Mc Donalds. Not in Budapest, not in North America.

My slogan: Keep it healthy and gourmet.
