Hungarian Potatoes

This restaurant has very good food, large portions, a good wine list and a very cool decor.

Unfortunately, we were there are a fairly slow time and our waiter knew some people at one of the other tables so the service was a bit spotty. He took good care of us when he was around, but unfortunately, that was not as often as it should have been.

Favorite Dish: We asked the waiter for something that was traditional Hungarian and he suggested something that was not on the menu, Hungarian potatoes. Well, we ordered them and we were very surprised by how large of a portion as well as the presentation and the little extras on the platter. (And yes, I mean platter, not plate!)

Notice the size of the mug next to the platter. It was big enough to hold at least .5 litres. The portion was huge and as I recall, the price for it was only about $2-3 USD.

And yes, it tasted at least as good as it looks!

It is hard to find a good restaurant in foreign country even harder to find the right one.
Though Sir Lancelot is one of a kind, there is still many restaurants that are undiscovered by foreigners. The one place what even the natives use to find a good place is ww.ettteremmester.hu Hope that you find the right place for you.

Sir Lancelot has a medieval concept as you can tell from the name. The waiters and waitresses are all dressed in medieval clothes. The decoration is reflecting the middle ages era. The music you hear is medieval and even there are some shows like sword fighting or fire eating during dinner. The menu focuses on meat of all types and if you come with a group, I suggest you to order one of those big platters which is carried by two people on your table. The food is great, the service is excellent and the shows are interesting. It is also exciting to eat with your hands as you won't be served any fork. For a medieval dinner experience, this is the right place.

Favorite Dish: You can choose any type of meat, but the big platters are cool :)

When we made reservations, we expected to find the Lancelot quite crowded when we arrived...it was not. Nevertheless, we were shunted off to a little used room which was far from the promised music and festivities. The decor there and in the entire restaurant was medieval schlok.. crummy, cheap swordish items, shields, et al. Obviously, I cannot comment on the entertainment since we were so far away it was only a rumour. I received the definite impression that we were correctly identified as American tourists and therefore deemed not worthy of good seating.
The menu is most confusing leading one to order much more than should be necessary. However, most of that served was either potato or fat, so unless you ate all the potatos, the amount was not as large as it seemed. The food came on an immense platter, but when you removed the potatoes, the remainder was not a noteworthy amount. The ribs and pork were noteworthily fatty. When you removed the fat, there was not all that much. The flavor was not very good. I would not go back either for the food nor the atmosphere.
The server was pleasant, helpful, but his primary duties were in the "important" rooms.

Lancelot's is a tourist trap. I cannot account for the good reviews which appear in Virtual Tourist. I should have listened to our conceriege's gentle hint to go elsewhere. I would not go there again. There are many better places to eat.

Favorite Dish: We had a variety of beef, chicken, and pork items. None were very good, albeit not awful. However, none of it was worth a trip to Budapst nor the time expended at Lancelot's. As mentioned, the Lancelot could use the motto, "Fat Are Us".

Plate for 4 - enough for 7

Definitely not a restaurant you'd go on a daily basis if you try not to put on too much weight.
It's an adventure from the moment you step down those steps that lead you into the cellar.
You're transported in a totally different era in a split of a second, true feast for the eyes, ears, tummy... everything!

Favorite Dish: Hm, you tell me. From all those dishes that are more or less all extremelly tasty.
But oh, well... def those potato flat pancakes (I'll ask for the real name) and then... well I gotta check out the menu :D

Gargoyle in Lancelot

Sure, you get a knife and a spoon...but you are supposed to eat with your hands! Well then...it's a medieval restaurant! :)

But don't worry, you will have this nice gargoyles where you can wash your hands. Just have to find the way to make them work. My hint: look down! :)

Tanja taking a pic - will it fit in the frame? :)

The food in Lancelot is just excellent and the portions are huge! Tanja (VT-er soncnica) can't believe it either: this is a plate for 4! :)

The 7 girls were strugling with it for an hour or so and they still had a nice big doggy-bag when leaving :)

And there is also shows of dancers, medieval fighters, etc, so you don't get bored eating :)

Favorite Dish: Anything will do...lamb, game....just bame it and they have it and season it just right! :)

If you still have room, try "Makos Rogok", which is the famous hungarian sweet "Makos guba": crescent put in milk with poppy seeds and then baked for some time...delicious :)

Sir Lancelot's entrance

Sir Lancelot is a great medieval restaurant, with huge portions and great food!

Reserve your table, because the place is usually full. You can do so also on their homepage.

Favorite Dish: If you like game, try the Mantle of Guinevere! I did and it's great! :)

And make sure to ask for a doggy bag well in advance...:)

For a medieval atmosphere, an excellent and heavy meal, served fancy and kind, try Lancelot.
For an elegant, sophisticated and light dinner try Taverne.

Favorite Dish: In Lancelot restaurant, try the soup served in bread and goose liver - are excellent!
In Taverne, the fish with almonds is amaizing!
