The Christmas Eve Dinner & Cruise with live music starts at 19.00.
Meeting point for Dinner & Cruise is inside the Danube Palace (Zrínyi Street 5.). Guests are requested to be at the meeting point latest by 18.30.
The Budapest Castle complex of buildings is on the west side of the Danube and perched up on Castle Hill overlooking the Danube. From the Pest side, you can stroll across the Chain Bridge, and then you can take the funicular railway 2 min ride, or walk up the hill.
A marvellous palace of impressive size, The Royal Palace in Budapest almost faces the Parliament Buildings across the Danube River. It houses several museums.
Nothing like standing on the banks of the Danube watching the ice flow with the current.
Great people, get about and meet them. Go to a Russian restuarant and drink ice cold vodka - cant remember much else!
specially nice is walk around it and see it from the other bank of the river, despite of the weather!!
From the parliament is nice to walk up to Margaret island 300m further away or just sit in any bech over the road running side by side to the river bank ..specially at sunset !
The Royal Palace isn't really an attraction, you can't visit the inside and see royal furnishings but you can have a walk around the grounds. The Palace now houses the National Gallery, a history museum and a library.
The Palace has a long history of destruction and ressurection starting in the13th century when a palace was built for the kings of Hungary, again reconstructed in Renaissance style by King Matthias.
During Turkish occupation it was neglected and during the siege of 1686 it was completely destroyed.
The Habsburg monarchs rebuilt the Royal Palace but never occupied it for long, preferring to remain in Vienna. Destroyed again in the siege of Budapest.
The external facade is made by Mészáros and Gerstenberger and the architectural style of the building is neobaroque. The murals on the walls of the theatre were painted by Lajos Márk. Since its opening the Casino has excelled at patronising the arts: exhibitions and concerts have been held here, it has financed opera performances and it has also organised competitions. A great many famous people have given performances in the Casino such as Béla Bartók, Zoltán Kodály, Mark Twain and Antonin Dvorak.
The Danube Palace, formerly the Casino of Lipótváros was established in 1883. It was founded by Miksa Falk, who was also its first president. The construction of the casino was completed in 1895, based on the plans of Vilmos Freund. Géza Márkus was the architect of the casino.
