    Watching the River Danube

Strolling along the banks of the Danube on the embankments in Pest or Buda is
a great way to see the city. I took this piccy a few days ago when the River
had flooded the both sides of the embankments and the roads were underwater.
Spend an hour or two and just walking from Margaret Sziget (Margaret Island) down to the
Liberty Bridge and crossing over and walking back down the other side.
The tram #2 runs along the river on Pest side.Great view of the Castle District,
Mattius Church, Citadella and Gellert Hill..

The Danube River is one of the largest in Europe, I saw it already in many cities but never as wide as here. I would like one day to take a cruise on the Danube, all the way from Germany to Romania (if possible)

When you think Budapest you immediatly think to the Danube River. It flown through the town from the north to the south. His width changes from the 640 meters near the Szentendre Island to the 283 metres near the Gellert Hill. In this point the river is 9 metres depth.
In the past years was very frequent the floods, where the waters was potering widen the quarters of the town for more than one kilometer. With the widening of the industry of Budapest an intensification of the navigation was had. Best and Buda are connected with seven bridges.

Early morning walks, as the sun is rising, always shows a city to it's best advantage.

Watching a city wake up is a privilege to be enjoyed by all travellers.

A new day is always the start of a new positive attitude, a day full of hope.

Sunrise over a river is especially wonderful, the reflections of a multicoloured sky double the viewing pleasure.

While on the Chain Bridge, both sides give you a great view of the banks of the Danube and the heart of Budapest. The view in the picture is looking south. You can see Gellert Hill to the right and the Erzsebet Bridge.

We live by the Danube. We see her many times a day. We cross it at least twice a day. We drink by the Danube, we have dinner by the Danube. We jog by the shores. Danube is the heart of Budapest, and not only her 'standard view' in the downtown, but also her face here, in the northern districts too.

Very funny, if someone from Budapest travels anywhere, s/he calls every river AND sea the Danube.

    - Let's go down to the Danube
    - Hey, it's the Hudson River, not the Danube!
    - Er, whatever, it doesn't matter

    :)

Running through central Budapest the Danube splits Budapest between the traditional cities of Buda and Pest.

Danube (DONAU) river runs through Budapest. There are house boats and restaurant boats on both sides of the river. You can easily walk over to the other side on one of the bridges.

The views from all of the hills in Buda, and any of the high buildings in Pest are amazing.

The Danube will usually feature in your view too!
