Little island in the middle of the Danube which is one the few havens for relaxation in this chaotic city.
You can run round it on a special running track , play tennis or watch concerts, or just sit around like all the old people do.
The best recommendation is the pedal buggies you hire for 1900 forints , you pedal through the park admiring the flowers ( or trying to do handbrake turns )
This island is famous of hot springs, there're some hot spring hotels on this Margit sziget(Margaret Island). It was extremely cold in Budapest when I was there In Jan. 2003, and nearly all the ponds were iced, only this one, not iced at all and still steaming although the water was cool. Amazing.
The Margaret Island (Margit-sziget) is the perfect area for relaxing walks between plenty of old trees. Some historical monuments like the ruins of two 13th century churches, a water tower and a Japanese Garden can be found on the island. Last but not least the island offers nice views to the banks of the Danube.
Margit sziget (Margaret Island) is located in the Danube river between Buda and the Pest sides. On this image I was trying to capture the island and the bridge that takes you to the island. The name of the bridge is Margit hid (Margaret bridge). At the other side of the island there is another bridge called Arpad hid.
There are many things to see on Margaret Island. My favorite is the Palatinusz. This a place where you can swim in big pools and take a bath in thermal water. They have a wave pool and many slides and fun stuff. The name of the place is: Palatinusz Strand.
There are restaurants, coffees and hotels on the island. At night, when the sun goes down, just sit-down in the park on the grass or on a bench and look at the huge water fountains. They are lit up with different colored lights and changing colors. It is stunning. The entire island is only about 1.5 Kilometers (1-mile) long.
The stretch of green between the banks is 1 1/2 miles long and makes a great place to get away and relax. You won't see any private cars, just some joggers, some lovers lounging on the grass and a lot of open space. There is a huge swimming complex, an open-air theater and some ancient ruins of a 13th century Dominican Convent and a Franciscan Church of the same era.
Margaret Sziget, Margaret Island
This island is a place to relax. Have a walk around the island or just ly down on a green.
It´s also the place were Hungarys´ biggest rock festival takes place in the summer, the Pepsi Sziget!
large park in the Danube, great place to spend an afternoon. Bikes for hire or just walk, we did. Many bars and cafes around too, some sell fresh fruit juices and they're excellent on a hot afternoon! Mrs Bonio is watching the Grand prix on the bar t.v. shame!
Located in the North-West of Margaret Island is a small but really nice Japanese garden. There a couple of nice ponds with turltles and attractive plants.
If the weather, during your stay, is good, you should definately pay a visit to Margaret Island. The natural enviroment is very impressive considering it's just few minutes away from the city centre.
Located in the center of the Danube river, and connected to both sides by bridges, this island houses a huge park area.
It's a wonderful place for a stroll on a hot summer day.
This 1½ mile long island is connected to both Buda and Pest by the Margaret and Arpad Bridges. It's a beautiful open space where you can spen a pleasant afternoon walking.
Go to Margitsziget (Margaret Island) and stroll around the parks, buy some fagyi (ice cream) and watch the people.A small oasis in the middle of the city.
Autumn at it's finest in late September or throughout October. There is an ocean of leaves, beutiful colors... You can basically dive into them. And the weather is still gentle, no gloves yet.
