The Museum of Hungarian Agriculture is the biggest museum of agriculture found in Europe. It is situated in one of the lovely buildings of Castle Vajdahunyad on the Széchenyi-island in Városliget.

If you read my earlier tips on this Castle you would have read that many different styles were used in the building of it. This one is different to many of the others, as it's Baroque from the 16th to !8th century. The Baroque palace is the replica of Austrian palaces in the Austro-Hungarian empire.

The museum of agriculture has been here since 1897.
I wasn't interested in this Museum, but after reading what the interior is like, I think I should have gone inside just to see that!
It is described as having a marble arched court up to the first floor via marble staircase, enormous crystal chandelliers, carved pillars and stained glass windows.
The website gives the dates and some information on the upcoming exhibitions.

    The permanent exhibitions are ......
The History of Hungarian Agriculture from the Beginning to 1945
    The Development of Domestic Animals
    Hunting Exhibition
    Forestry
Hungarian Grapes and Wine in Europe
The History of Fishing in Hungary
    Natural Values, Conservation
    From the Kingdom of Plans

Well, too late for me to return now, just shows that you never know if it will be interesting or not - unless you go inside!

The Reinassence building of the castle is today the Mezogazdasagi Muzeum (Museum of Agricolture). Here you can fund Magyar things used to work the land and many things about the agricultural life in Hungary.

I was looking for Szechenyi Bath when I came across with the Museum of Agriculture building.
A special exibition was taking place at that time but I did not enter to see it.
I just enjoyed being outside appreciating the place and is garden.
If you are next to the Bath, just cross its outside entrance garden and you will see this building in the middle of the City Park Lake.

    Vajdahunyad Castle

by viddra Written Apr 8, 2007

This fairytale-like building hosts the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture.

The original Vajdahunyad Castle was constructed in 1896, but was reconstructed in 1904.
