I like Budapest very much (and have been there several times), but visitors need to be warned about one particularly common scam. On Vaci utca (the main tourist street), single men are repeatedly approached by pairs of well-dressed, attractive young women. They are always in pairs and claim to be visiting from some other place, usually Pecs (a city in the south of Hungary). They say that they are looking for a place for a drink, maybe with nice music, and invite you to join them. This may be tempting, but DON'T BE FOOLED!!! They work for a couple of local bars, and their job is to get tourists inside, where they will be grossly over-charged. One poor sucker got a bill for 1 million forints (about US$4000). If you don't pay, the mafia thugs will beat you up. The police may help you, and they may not. Some of them are corrupt. So, enjoy Budapest -- as I do -- but don't believe that suddenly you are desirable to strolling women (unless you always were!).

If it were better, I wouldn't consider this a waste of time. We went on a walking tour (I think called the 'ultimate walking tour') and it was supposed to be about 3 hours checking out many parts of Budapest. Well, it was shorted to 2 hours and most of it we could have experienced ourselves. The tour began at Heroes' Square (picture).

BEWARE in the train U will be aborded by girls saying their work for tourism Office, and is false.
In the Tourist Office, they recommends pensions and not offer Hostels... because probably they receive commissions. I asked and it´s a mafia...
Foreign currency exchange...
Foreign currency exchange rates are usually the worst in banks, and frequent places in the inner city. My opinion is that if there's more than 2-3 percents between the buy and sell rates, don't hesitate to walk a few blocks away to look for smaller currency exchange stands where the rates are usually much more reasonable. It worths it!

Behind Heroes' Square is the City Park. While the Vajdahunyad Castle is quite beautiful, the rest of the park contains an ice rink (winter only), an amusement park, zoo, and playground. Take a look at the castle, but don't get sucked into the amusement park - there is too much culture left to see in the city!!!!!
Although Margaret is very nice and i think it is a nice place see and walk in , it is a little bit tourist trap , quite boring with not too many attractions.

Margaret island in winter
There is really nothing to see in Winter on Margaret Island. Everything is closed...
Unique Suggestions: Maybe you can spot the hot water going from the island into the danube.
Just being a tourist is sometimes enough of a trap in itself! Try not to squeeze too much in a short space of time....you can always come back!

The Church of Our Lady is generally called the Matthias Church , because its southern tower bears the coat of arms with the raven (in Latin: Corvus) of Matthias (Corvinus) Hunyadi (1458-1490).

It still happens that taxi drivers, waiters etc. try to make you pay more if they notice you're a foreigner. Like in every big city; be aware of pickpockets.
