 | Budapest Transportation | Tips 21 - 30 of 580 | | Popular Transportation | Other Transportation Tips | All Tips (580) The best website to use for train schedules throughout Hungary is www.elvira.hu. It has updated train schedules for all trains within Hungary as well as international trains coming from or going to stops in Hungary. The schedules are clear, and the site tells who if and when you have to change lines on a trip. A great way to plan a quick trip from from Budapest or elsewhere. There is also a link to the Die Bahn site for other European timetables. It is great to be armed with information from this website, especially since English is not always spoken at the train stations for domestic trips. Leave a Comment

From the airport there are expensive minibuses taking you to your destination in Budapest, but there is another easy way to go to the city centre, and it is much cheaper. Outside the terminal you will find a blue airport bus going to K?banya-Kispest metro station. In February 2006 the fare was 210 ft for the bus. At K?banya-Kispest metro station we bought a 7-days travel pass and continued to the centre of Budapest with the Metro. Going back to the airport the travel pass is valid also on the airport bus (the travel pass can not be bought at the airport) from K?banya-Kispest. Going from Deak Ference ter metro station to the airport took just under one hour. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

There are quite a lot of VTers inquiring about transportation options between the city center and the airport. Therefore I collected all the options here: 1. Taxi - definitely the most convenient way, no transfers, door-to-door - journey time: 20-40 mins, depending on traffic and location within the center - at the same time, it's the most expensive for the single traveller - however, for groups, taxies are optimal in pricing as well (most cabs are designed for 4 passengers, excl. driver) - taxi companies have fixed prices for Pest and Buda destinations, varying around 4000 HUF - it's advisable to order taxi on phone, since Tourist Taxi, the only taxi company allowed at the airport (others can only stop for picking up passengers) charges significantly more than other companies - always agree about the price in advance - tip about 10% if you're satisfied with the service 2. Airport Minibus - convenient,door-to-door, taxi-like service which takes passengers travelling to destinations close to each other together - reasonably priced, 2100 HUF one way, 3600 HUF return, to be payed per person - for groups, it's advisable to arrange the hire of one minibus in advance, hiring a minibus for the trip to the center is cheaper than using more cabs (note that in this case, special fares are applied, not the 2100 HUF/person rate!) - journey time: 20-60 minutes, depending on route, traffic and destination within the center - book at the Airport Minibus Desk on arrival level at all terminals - book airport-bound trips three days in advance at your hotel or on phone For the cheapest (but less convenient) option, public transportation, check my relevant tip: Airport Transportation - Public Transportation. There is absolutely NO need to drive around Budapest in your own car, as the public transportation-net is really good, fast and efficient. Click on my link below and see a map of the metro and some explanations. For the centre of town and when you intend to stay for just 1-2 days it might be the best to walk, when you have more time and start exploring the outskirts of Budapest, the metro will be the best to do so ! On my picture : another shot of the lovely facade of "House of Photography" - see also my tips about it under "Off the beathen path" Leave a Comment

Sikló is the name of the cablecar taking you up to the castle of Buda(pest). The ride takes just a few minutes but it is quite scenic and saves you of a lot of steps, wheny you would like to explore the upper part of Buda ( the right bank of the Danube). Sikló consists of 2 cablecars running on rails and beeing connected by a rope, so they start at the same time below and on top and will meet in the middle of the track. The ride on the cablecars is NOT included in the daytickets of the public transportation-system !! Budapest-card is also NOT valid here !! Sikló runs between 07.30a.m. and 10.00p.m. Except each monday of an "uneven week" for maintenance ! When you click on my picture, you may see the Sikló below and the chainbridge above ! I'm always walking a lot, not using public transportation so much, but when I visited Budapest I did it with my sister and she prefers to take the bus and then the travel passes are a good option. We were staying in Budapest Sunday - Thursday, but there are no 5-days travel passes. There are 3-days passes and 7-days passes. We bought the 7-days pass and it was 3400 ft. The travel passes are valid on the metro, on the buses (also the airport bus), on the tram and the HEV-train (not all the way, but only within the city limits). We bought the tickets from the ticket booth at K?banya-Kispest metro station. Leave a Comment

The Europena Union has created a set of rights to ensure air passengers are treated fairly. The airline operating your flight is responsible for transporting you and your baggage and must respect your rights. Denied boarding / Cancelled Flight / Long delays / Baggage / Injury / Package holiday First step: ask the representative of the airline operating your flight to deal with your probelm. Second step: If you are affected by denied boarding, a cancellation or a long delay and the opreating airline doesnt fulfil their obligations, then you should complain to the relevant national enforcement body. If your flight departs form an EU country, complain there. If you are travelling from outside to the EU, and your flight is operated by an EU airline, complain in the EU counrty where it lands. For the name and address of the relevant authority, or details of organisations which can advise or help with other complaints (eg baggage, injury...) contact the EU DIRECT phone 00 800 6 7 8 9 10 11 or email mail@europe-direct.cec.eu.int Leave a Comment
