New York Cafe House(under reconstruction): a special place with beautiful interior

Cafe New York / New York Kávéház will certainly be the most beautiful of all the cafes in the style of "Wiener Kaffeehaus" :The big palais was first build by an insurance company with the name "New York" and got an Art Nouveau-Cafe with small boxes and galleries like in a theatre, an ornate golden decoration, marble, chandeliers, precious paintings... The whole building was sold in 1999 and is reconstructed as a hotel today - its name will be " Boscolo Hotel " and the cafe will be a part of it !Click on my link below and read more about it on their webpage !

Conditorei Hauer / Cukrászda Hauer is a traditional Confectionary dating back to the year 1890. Rezsö Hauer became famous with his cafe in 1896 and after beeing closed for several years it was restored and re-opened in the year 2002.The cafe is on the busy street between Keleti pu and the Elisabethbridge . This cafe is still quite cheap and still a place with a great interior, where a lot of local people go."Esterhazy-cake" is another one of my favorite cakes with a white sugar-glacing & chocolate pattern on top.On my link below, you may see a few more pics about this great place !!

Alcatraz is a nice restaurant and music-pub, close to the hostel Marco Polo.On a regular basis there is live music - take a look at the link below.It was mainly the funny entrance and the fancy decorations that attracted my attention - click on my picture and enjoy !Prices are slightly above average, but still quite cheap for tourists.The restaurant is open :Monday-Wednesday 04.oo p.m.-02.oo a.m. Thusday - Saturday 04.00 p.m.-04.00 a.m. Closed every sunday !the kitchen closes at 1:00 a.m. I had a great Salmon steak and payed 2600 huft ( = 11€uros) , I think that is certainly a lot of money for the local people and hungarian prices look at the first view always quite high, but when you considder that 1 Euro is 245 huft, it is finally cheaper than any western country in Europe !On the link below, you may also take a look at their menu and prices.

One of the best cakes in town as many fellow Vters recommended.I followed the advice of fellow VTer Nicolaitan & tried the cakes...they are fabulous !It is creamy & just sweet to how mama VzPam likes it, perfect compliment to my cappucino .Price is decent but the place is small & can get crowded. I was lucky to get a table since it was winter time & not a lot of tourists around. I went to the glass display counter & point to a cake that was made with chestnut....Yummy...best cake I had in Budapest

Brace yourself for a truly royal feast in an authentic Indian setting hidden in downtown Budapest. The cooks have a rare flair for curries and tandoori dishes alike. Plus, an amazing variety of superb Indian food, would recommend it to anyone stopping over in Budapest. People seem to think likewise as the place was packed on a Wednesday evening. You'll at once be transported to the Mughal Raj if you head down a couple of stairs at 50 Dob utca! Well, on the first visit, I went in for the staple Mughlai dish "murg makhni", being as it is the test of an Indian restaurant - I wasn't disappointed. On the second, I felt an urge for trying "machli masala" and I had tandoori salad for entrée. If the tandoori salad is excellent, then the machli masala beggars description. Sabji raita is an excellent match for the machli masala. They are great at the naan-front as well.

Inside and outside seating , great food, great drinks, and a fantastic bartender - she definitely made the best Mojitos. This place was just around the corner from the Parliment. The decor was excellent and there were several movie posters around the restaurant that fit right in. We just had a variety of snacks, all were good. But the best of the best, were the Mojitos.

Mosseleg Belgian Beer Cafe: Beer and Mussels

Saw an ad that said, Belgian beer and great mussels. Sounded good to us, so off we went. It really wasn't far from where we stayed, it was the first stop after you got off the island, and a short walk down Pannonia utca. The decor is outstanding, the staff was excellent, the beer, all from Belgian is great, and the food was outstanding.The prices were very reasonable. I also liked the idea that you could buy different sizes of draft beer or by the bottle. We tried a variety. A very nice cafe, (its on the Pest side) Mussels - definitely get them done in the garlic sauce. Keep in mind, our 3 weeks at the SPA came with meals, but this place was so great we ended up going back 3 times. Well worth the stop.

This was our first "Kavehaz" to visit - and it was a little of a disappointment at first! We entered through a door that led us to the smoker's area - a little off the way from the delicious cake tray area! Boy, we had anticipated something totally different !!!On our way out we then happened to pass through the main entrance area - which also is the non-smoking part - and that was what we had hoped for! Beautiful interior, of course delicious cakes and coffee and an atmosphere like a hundred years ago!Very enjoyable!

A: Try the gorgeous Gellert Spa inside the hotel----not sure how nude you want it---not like the Deco Spa in Amsterdam, but you are naked most of the time in a spa!
