Szekesfehervar Off The Beaten Path

Almost half way between Budapest and lake Balaton, lake Velence attracts the travellers with its sparkling water-surface richly covered with islands of reed and coninuous reed stretches and on its northern shore with gently emerging mountains and slopy hills. The lake with its 26 km surface ranks the third biggest natural still water in Hungary. Its favourable geographic and climatic features, its high number of sunny hours, its water suitable for open-air bathing, water-sports and fishing, as well as its surroundings for hiking, make the lake Velence a popular resort

Gánt, Bauxite-mine. Gánt is a little village around Székesfehérvár. You can reach the formally bauxite mine on road 7 (not M7, which is the highway), see the map. This place is really beautiful in the sunset, it's like a martian afternoon. Take 5, chill out, and enjoy how the rocks are turning to deep red!

The small Punter lake is situated in the park which is northwest of the old core of the town. It is rowing and boating resort of the town.

Varkocs Gyorgy, the Captain of the castle who fought against the Turkish - Ottoman Sultan in Buda in 1543, but finally was defeated by the numerical superiority.

The Ottokar Prohaszka Commemorative Church, was built in 1929-1930, that recalls the memory of the bishop O. Prohaszka.

St. Donat Chapel on the Old Hill (Öreghegy)

The 'Punter-Lake' is one of the favourite resting places in the town.

Visit Gorsium, one of the most important flourishing towns of the Roman province Pannonia which was explored in an extremely good state near Székesfehérvár. (8 kms from the town)
