My grandfather's family came from Hungary, and when I mentioned this to our Hungarian tour guide, she taught me to do the csárdás, a Hungarian folk dance. She and I danced on the shores of the Danube while waiting for a boat to take us to a restaurant. Leave a Comment

by bobuk Walk over this bridge between the two cites of Buda and Pest until you drop. At the end of the day, pick yourself up and enjoy some Hungarian food and lots of Hungarian beer. Then you are ready to hit the town again......I found that the evening sightseeing can be quite awesome.... Leave a Comment

by bobuk Be prepared to walk. In a nutshell, Budapest was formed by the joining up of two cities. One was called Buda and I will leave you to guess what the other one was called. Both Buda and Pest are (or were) split by a magnificent river called the Danube, as you can see in the photo. You can of course use transport, but walking from one city to the other using the bridges that cross the Danube is exhilarating and is the healthy option. If you are blessed with sunshine then just stick to walking and head for the old part of the city. Some basic info and history can be found at :- http://www.budapestinfo.hu/en/ , or http://www.fsz.bme.hu/hungary/budapest/bp.htm Leave a Comment

by snehulak I arrived in Budapest on St. Steven's day, purely by chance. It is a huge celebration, complete with bands, craft shows, plays, food vendors, beer vendors, and a huge fireworks display at the end. Hundreds of thousands of people show up and it's one huge party. It covers most of the area on both sides of the river, with the local artisans displaying thier wares along the roads leading up the hillside of Buda, and near the Chain bridge. The holiday is on August 20th. Leave a Comment

by Pavlik_NL Go to Budapest (see seperate page) and the Balaton-lake. These are the two hotspots in Hungary and of very different caliber. Budapest is - of course - the big city and capitol. Balaton is a pleasurable recreational place of natural beauty. Here are many facilities for watersports as well as relaxation. Some places surrounding the lake have magnificent palaces (also former royalty recognised the beauty of the place) and mansions (perfect example you find in Kesztely).
Angyalka from Szarvas. What a pitty that we didn't meet again on the dancing in the open-air-discotheque that evening after our meeting, the other night. Leave a Comment

by Tintim For me, Budapest has some characteristics that make it look quite similar to Vienna (wich is normal, looking through History) but it is much more beautiful than Vienna; I suppose that is because the Danube is here omnipresent. And the river is fantastic, very, very beautiful, indeed1 Leave a Comment
