Welcome to Eger, a Town of Wine and Grape.

by cobrioc

Eger is one of the most beautiful towns of Hungary with lots of historic buildings. It lies in the valley of the Eger Stream, in the hill-country, which extends over the western foot of the B?kk Mountains. Szepasszony-volgy (Witch Valley) is the home of the world-famous wines of Eger. Those who have become tired of sightseeing may turn into one of the cellars hollowed into the rhyolite tuff hillsides. The walls of the cellars are covered with noble mould. The so called oregsor (Old Row [of wine cellars]) was established in the 18th century, but the first cellars were probably made at an even earlier time

TIHANY

by cobrioc

Tihany is a peninsula on the nothern side of Lake Balaton, the largest shallow lake in the Central European region. Tihany is also the name of the village located on the top of the hill. Both Tihany peninsula and the village has many historical interests including an early Iron Age fortress and the Tihany Abbey founded in the 11th century.Tihany is one of the oldest settlements in the region. The church and the monastery was founded in 1055 by King Andrew I., who is buried here Freshwater is arriving from the west, from river Zala and crystal clear creeks feed the lake from the north too. The excess water is given away by the Sio chanal. In every 2 years the water of the lake is totally replaced. According to an old legend, deep in the muddle of Lake Balaton, there is a church with a girl inside, who is feed in the silky waters of the lake with her tears. Allegedly there will be water...

Aggtelek National Park

by cobrioc

The caves may be visited on guided tours lasting 1, 2, 5 or 7 hours. These start from Aggtelek and Josvafo Classical and other music concerts are held in the beautiful Concert Hall of the Baradla cave because of its wonderful acoustics, which provides a very special experience for visitors. Here in the Aggtelek and Slovakian karst, together forming a geological and geographical unit, is where Central Europe’s largest cave system was formed. The longest cave in the karst area and also in Hungary is the Baradla-cave, the total length of which, with the side branches, is 25 km. A 5.6 km section of this lies in Slovakian territory and is known under the name Domica. The cave was formed in 230 million year old middle Triassic limestone. The start of its formation can, on the basis of geological data, be put at around 2 million years ago. The waters of the streams got into the system of cracks...

Hungarian Wine

by Mitre

The wines of Hungary are excellent. My particular favourite was the Villanyi Merlot. They are relatively inexpensive and are great value for money. Others worth a mention are Bulls Blood (Egri/Szeksardi Bikaver) which is a red and Tokaji which is a sweet white.

Staying In Budapest...

by coceng

My favourite memory would be staying in Budapest for more times than I expected! I had a friend that I could stay with & who has been visiting me here in Malaysia.I got to know many nice people, watching my first classical & opera performance in Budapest!I love the place & I want to stay here if I have the chance.... The thing I missed most is taking the underground trains, going out spot to another....love listening to the speakers on the train about the place that I was approaching....The photo on the left was taken from the balcony, from my friend's place.....It was a photo of the apartment building next to his....

Amazing scenery

by maranasca

My favorite place in Budapest were the thermal bathes and the unique setting of the city! My most memorable experience about Hungary had to be the night life and the people that I met. Many Hungarians were willing to drop what they were doing to help a lost tourist. Also the language is very melodic and even though you do not understand what they are saying it still sounds so pretty.

..history....

by alirom

Hungary is a landlocked country in Central Europe, bounded on the north by Slovakia; on the north-east by Ukraine; on the east by Romania; on the south by Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia; and on the west by Austria. Its maximum extent from west to east is 528 kilometres; from north to south this figure is 319 kilometres. Hungary is predominantly flat. The Danube River forms part of Hungary's north-western border with Slovakia, and then flows south through Budapest, dividing Hungary into two general regions.
