View from the Castle over Pest

by devinemissd

There are two ways to get to the castle from the Pest-side. Either by foot or by transportation. It´s a steep climb up to the top, but well worth the effort once you´re up there. I´d recommend to walk all the way. The path takes you through a beautiful parc and there are many places where you can stop and enjoy the view from.

As a career firefighter I like to stop in different fire stations and trade patches. The best in Hungary is Zsambek and Keszthely. Zsambek is all very old equipment. I especially like driving the "Rusky" tender.

Many fountains

by kaloz

It was very hot when we travelled. We saw many people carrying water bottles, so we got some, and were always filling them up at the many fountains. The water is potable, we didn't suffer any ill consequences. This is a fountain for the god Pan, the flute player. This fountain is in Budapest. Doing what the locals do.

by bobuk

Be prepared to walk. In a nutshell, Budapest was formed by the joining up of two cities. One was called Buda and I will leave you to guess what the other one was called. Both Buda and Pest are (or were) split by a magnificent river called the Danube, as you can see in the photo. You can of course use transport, but walking from one city to the other using the bridges that cross the Danube is exhilarating and is the healthy option. If you are blessed with sunshine then just stick to walking and head for the old part of the city. Some basic info and history can be found at :- http://www.budapestinfo.hu/en/ , orhttp://www.fsz.bme.hu/hungary/budapest/bp.htm

by snehulak

I arrived in Budapest on St. Steven's day, purely by chance. It is a huge celebration, complete with bands, craft shows, plays, food vendors, beer vendors, and a huge fireworks display at the end. Hundreds of thousands of people show up and it's one huge party. It covers most of the area on both sides of the river, with the local artisans displaying thier wares along the roads leading up the hillside of Buda, and near the Chain bridge. The holiday is on August 20th.

by Pavlik_NL

Go to Budapest (see seperate page) and the Balaton-lake. These are the two hotspots in Hungary and of very different caliber. Budapest is - of course - the big city and capitol. Balaton is a pleasurable recreational place of natural beauty. Here are many facilities for watersports as well as relaxation. Some places surrounding the lake have magnificent palaces (also former royalty recognised the beauty of the place) and mansions (perfect example you find in Kesztely). Angyalka from Szarvas. What a pitty that we didn't meet again on the dancing in the open-air-discotheque that evening after our meeting, the other night.

Tintim's General Tip

by Tintim

For me, Budapest has some characteristics that make it look quite similar to Vienna (wich is normal, looking through History) but it is much more beautiful than Vienna; I suppose that is because the Danube is here omnipresent. And the river is fantastic, very, very beautiful, indeed1
