It’s Sunday night at 10:15 we have just booked into the hotel and we are hungry, all the restaurants in Gyõr seem to have closed (very un-English). Good old reliable McDonalds, it may not be the healthiest meal on the planet but the Big Macs and Fries are the same anywhere, where the names are different the pictures are the same. Best of all although McDonalds were due to close, they stayed open until we finished our meal.

Pleasant restaurant down by the Mosoni-Duna river. I brought a big appetite here and was well-satisfied. I didn't eat much beef this summer, but when I came to Hungary I was feeling the need for some red meat, so I ordered a tenderloin filet that was very well-prepared. (And because it's Hungary,it's very affordable!) Service at the Restaurant Romantica is predictably excellent, and there is a full wine list with several interesting local selections. There are cheaper places to eat in Gyor, but I didn't see any that had as satisfying an ambience.

Although it's also a pension, I went there just for lunch. Nice terrace. Ver cheap (at least in Aug. '07).
