    Take the tour

    Heater.

Favorite thing: This is living, if you can afford it. We enjoyed all the baroque art, and a few surprises. The concert room is still used, and I would have loved to hear a quartet, but none was scheduled as we went after the season.

Fondest memory: Hypothosizing as to what these were, they were in every room. Finally we had to ask and found out they are heaters. There must be ductwork behind the scenes, and I believe the principal source of heat would be coal, but the walls and ceilings show no signs of ash or any blackening.

    The fisherman's saga

    Fisherman's saga

Favorite thing: Strolling the grounds. This is a continuation from the main page. Here the fisherman's son has fallen prey to the fish, and only the heroic efforts of the fisherman can save the day.

Fondest memory: When we got off the bus, (middle of nowhere), we had to decide which way to go. If you don't pronounce things correctly, people will stare at you blankly, which is funny considering there is only one reason to visit.

    Esterházy kastély

    Esterhzy kastly

Favorite thing: Esterházy built this place because he didn't like the city, and wanted a retreat. His sons hated the place and moved back to the city. One man's meat . . .

Fondest memory: When we went in, a Hungarian gentleman asked if we were scholars. We, of course, said "Egan!" (yes) and spent a delightful time in the Hayden Museum with many autographs. I am not a scholar, but a musician with a keen love of Hayden, especially the quartets.
