Kecskemet Things to Do

  • Old Church

There is beautiful Roman-Chatolic Church at the main square (kossuth ter). It was build at the end of the 18 century in Baroque-Rococo style. It is a tallest building in great plain with the bell of 45 tons.

  • Synagouge

It is beautiful Moorish style Synagogue just across the Ornament palace. Moorish style indicates to Berber-Islamic architecture style. I was surprised wen I have walked in to the building, the Synagogue and see like some kind of entertainer center for youth. I don't know, maybe I get it wrong, but it seams like that. This was on the first floor. At...

  • Cifra Palota

Oh what a piece of cake :) it really looks like a layer cake :) like one the one weddings. Building is also decorated with Zsolnay ceramic details. It has been build in 1902 and it belongs to the secessionist architecture. Cifra palota is usually translated as Ornamental palace but I don't think that is the right translation. I don't think that it...

  • City Hall

My favorite building in Kecskemet is definitely City Hall. it is a mixture of baroque and renaisansse style, and actually it looks like some kind of needlework from my grandmother :) The building is decorated with the details of Zsolnay patterns. It is a famous Hungarian producer of ceramics, porcelain, pottery. The manufacture was established in...

  • Take a walk

My visit to Kecskemet was business nature, but I have steal afternoons for me. Most of the times I have spend in walk and taking some photos since the days where really beautiful. • Central-square and the bells

You won´t be able to miss the centralsquare. And most likely you´ll hear the townhall bells at some point of your trip. They are playing different melodies, which bring a nice atmosphere to the town.It can be a bit annoying though, if staying in the central hotel, as most of the churches in the town have their own bells... so there´s quite a ring...

  • Historic town centre

As everywhee, the main attaction is the town centre. Beautiful buidings and small park, which gave a feeling of something alive, not just stone bag, the impression that I had in some medieval cities.Kecskemet centre is relaxing, you just feel a wilingness to contemplate.

In Kecskemet, all monuments and intresting buildings are around a big rectangle shaped central park. One one side you can find the beautiful cityhall (don't forget to go inside!) and the Dom-church. Kecskemet can be seen as a religious centre in Hungary.

Unfortunately I spent very little time in Kecskemet. However, I was able to visit the Hungarian Air Force Base while there. It was a great experience that I would recommend to anyone interested in aircraft.

Kecskemet Shopping

  • Malom: Shopping centre

by Kovrchica Updated Aug 8, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Malom is the shopping centre in the centre of the city. It is a very modern and pleasant centre. Personally it is my favourite shopping centre ever. Maybe because it was a holiday season, so it was decorated with the tree and Christmas decoration. Whole centre was in red colour and golden little lights.
I had a shopping of my life over there. And you can find everything you want: clothes, shoes, have some Coffee, grab something to eat, and at the top of the shopping centre there is a really large book store with the book cafe where you can take a book and reed it while u are drinking your coffee. Than if you want you can buy it or just return to the bookstore :) oh I really love that.
Near the bookstore there was wine shop, really nice collection of wines :)

What to buy: Clothes, shoes, books, wine, food, accessories, jewelry, perfumes ...

What to pay: As much as you can ...

As I said my picture taken there busted cos the negative has been exposed to light. • Architecture downtown.

I have no idea what this building is used for, but it was apparently not a 'special' building, just for everyday use.

The park in the center of town. Imre took us there to see the local crafts. They have open booths with local crafts being sold, prominent among them intricately embroidered tablecloths and scarves.
