Traditional Hungarian cuisine, in the very center of town, not too crowdy, some rooms with air-condition, rustic owen, live music in the evenings, menu in a few language (Polish too, as they have quite big number clients from Poland) and ... very tasty food.

Not only while strolling along Mátyás király Promenade, the "main street" of the baths area, can one come across elegant restaurants, cafés with fine atmosphere, country taverns recalling the rustic past, fast-food buffets and salad bars. Such places can be met with all over the town. Every one of them allures the hungry passer-by with some unique idea: rick-shaped earthenware oven, bread doughnuts, delicacies simmering in the stew pot, etc., and appetising aromas. After studying the menu cards we can come to the following conclusion: Every catering unit in Szoboszló prepares dishes to suit international tastes. This is evidenced by the surprise kitchens and baker's shops found every 15-20 metres, where within minutes we can have the same dishes as in the most fashionable holiday resorts in Europe. The gourmets who swear by home-made foods, can feast in the homely guest house dining rooms in such surroundings and with such foods, as in their parental homes. Neither is it a problem if they are on a special diet, or are under the spell of the reform kitchen. Everywhere, and particularly in the restaurants of larger hotels, they can select at will from among the piquantly flavoured, healthy salads. Special dishes expressly characteristic of the area can also be tried out here. Bold posters invite you to Hajdú-type wedding feasts, where the verses of folk-poetry offering the dishes are also genuine. In other places you can enjoy the oven-baked bacon flavoured doughnuts served with sour cream to the singing of zither-playing maidens. On your request you will be taken to farmsteads restored to their original form, where there is a sweep-pole well in the yard, calves are lowing and sheep bleating, meanwhile you are having veal ragout with noodles from a glazed earthenware dish.
Favorite Dish: But even those favouring the rich Hungarian flavours can find their favourite delicacy anywhere: e.g. pickled cabbage with goulash and smoke-cured knuckle, Jókai bean soup, and goulash soup.
The mutton stew and fricassee of veal with red pepper seasoning, are a bit hot, nevertheless, these special dishes of the plain offer great enjoyment. Neither will you be disappointed with the highwayman's soup and the shepherd's cutlet. While you are tasting the slambuc, you will virtually feel the aroma of the plain and sense the flavoured dialect of the herdsmen.
In the summer evenings, more and more open-air eateries make their atmosphere more intimate by cooking the dishes over open fires in front of the guests' eyes. Our appetite is just increased by the flickering flames and slightly acrid smell of the smoke. After feasts like these you are sure to want one or two glasses of some fruity Hungarian wine, the thirst of our dear guests can also be quenched with a mug of beer, or with the favourite of the sober-minded ones, the Pávai-Vajna mineral water. If you don't want to put on weight, then do not hesitate to join in the dance. Music that tickles the feet to dance is provided everywhere!
