Narrow-gauge train at Miskolc LAEV station

Take a trip on the narrow-gauge railway from Miskolc to Lillafured in the Bukk National Park -- the ride takes about half an hour through beautiful, wooded hillsides.

Trains run approximately every hour, depending on the time of year -- the first train from Miskolc is 09-15 and the last one back from Lillafured is 16-20, but do check -- the website is shown below.

Trains from Miskolc leave from the LAEV station at Dorottya utca. The LAEV station is out of town -- take the no 1 tram in the opposite direction from the main Tiszai train station and get off 1 or 2 stops after the football ground 'Stadion' (on your left) -- the narrow-gauge station is then on your right.

Eger -- the minaret viewed from the castle.

About an hour or so by bus from Miskolc is the interesting spa town of Eger.

With a castle, Basilica, museums, a minaret and the nearby Valley of the Beautiful Women wine cellars, there's plenty to do.

Buses go from the main bus sation in Miskolc at Buza ter -- buses run approximately every hour and a half -- no need to get a ticket, pay the driver.

Lillafüred, lies about 12 km west of Miskolc. It has been a resort since the early part of the century a nice place to walk and get out in the nature if you are tired of Miskolc. It is on 320 m above the sea level and there you can find 3 caves. We went to the cave called Szent István about 500 m up the mountain road leading to Eger. It is not a very big cave, but a nice break. They have one hour guided tours. This cave has stalagmites, stalactites, sinkholes and large chambers.

In many of the villages close to the Seretek region (very old vulcano hills) there is fresh spring water coming down the mountains.
Here you can see a lovely water spring made from one of the villages. The water is pure and really good to drink and free of charges.

Hercegkut
Here is one of the caves where the hungarian stores their wines. It goes down a few meters and there is a constant temperature in there. I got claustrofobiac and I had to run out, also because, unfortunately, or fortunately I don't like alcohol.
But it's nice to see how it works.

From Hercekut to Miskolc, it's not so far away.
On the way there, we stopped for this beautiful picture in the middle of a really cold winter day.
