Guide book and city map

Budapest is one of the largest cities in Europe! It is possible to purchase a city map of Budapest from many parts of the world before you travel to Budapest or you can purchase a map from souvenir shops and/or bookstores in Budapest when you arrive in the city. Of course you can also obtain a free map of the city of Budapest or any other large cities in Hungary from tourist information office or from the hotel where you are staying. You may also obtain a free official guide (English edition) on Budapest published by the Tourism Office of Budapest from any tourist information office in the city. Another impressive and useful guide to be obtained free-of-charge from tourist information office is Budapest Menu prices & discounts guide.

You don't need to take too many cloths with, coz in Hungary you have a good offer of cheap but also expensive cloths and shoes. Normaly you can find anything you need, except of those medicaments for the special treatments. all you need is available

You'll need a good hardy bag or rucksack - if you can get one with wheels - so much the better!! In addition we carried a document holder around our necks for money, traveller's cheques and passport. Ensure you leave a photocopy of your passport at home - just in case. Try and put money in different places so if it gets lost or stolen you always have back-up - the usual stuff. Hungary has cold winters and warm summers. We went in March and it was mostly jumper weather. If you like relaxing in spas then don't forget swimming costume and flip-flops! Bring a plug adapter (two pins), take lots of travellers cheques and try and buy a few phone cards when you see them. Whenever we needed to use a phone to book accommodation, or just phone home, we took a good few hours searching for a public phone card because most of them do not take coins.

This will be a french speaking tip : this book is only written in french... First time I travel with a 'Routard' but this is really handy!!Don't count too much on it for the cultural or historical aspect of a city but if you are looking for the best hotel, restaurant or pub, this is definitely the book to buy...We are still wondering how they do, if there is a perfect place to sleep, eat or drink, you can be sure it will be in!!On the other hand, perfection is not human and we've found a few tips that were not so good...

You absolutely have to bring a camera with, you'll be willing to make tons of pictures, whatever your interests might be:-)))))On the photo you can see the Houses of Parliament... Hungary has a rather dry continental climate, so if you visit in the summer, you'll need very light clothes, mostly you'll have warm and sunny days. In the winter however you better take very warm clothes, often there is snow and obviously freezing cold:-)

Here in Hungary are 4 seasons,if you come in Winter you have to bring wintercoat and warm clothes because 0-5 grad is usually,but the summer is hot 25-37grad so just drop a hawai t-shirt to the bag and come.You dont need a lots of cloths if you are backpackers,becouse here is chep and there are many secon-hand shops Here the electric current is -220. hawai shirt,sunglasses..and beers : )

I did a backpacking travel, so for me it was important to take useful things with me that were not too heavy or big to take.My personal advice, take with you a good rucksack and only a suitcase. Two pair of good and comfortable shoes and light clothes for summer and the first period of fall,very warm for winter and the first months of spring. In Hungary you won't need medical kit,because there are not medical problems,you can find many chemist shops and the medicines sold are the same that in the rest of the Europe.Of course you have to take with you soap,shampoo and personal hygienic products. You will have no problems with your cameras and photo equipments in Hungary, you can find everywhere shops where you can buy new films or re-charge your camera, even because in Hungary the industry of films and optical products is very important. It's better if you take your swimsuit costume...

Depending on how much clothes you're planning to take with you ,you should take an bag in which you can put all of your things and still have some empty space...Belive me,this is an very useful tip... Budapest is pretty cold,and when the wind starts to blow in the winter-it's freezing!But,the clothes and shoes you should with you are usual-warm,comfortable and not too heavy.Make sure you don't forget to bring your gloves etc. if you're travelling there in winter!

A normal bag/suitcase will do you fine - although you might not want one which is too big if you have to travel to your hotel by tram. Hungary gets VERY hot during the summer months so make sure you have nice light clothing, just make sure you also bring some that is waterproof as during this hoy weather it can be prone to some incredible Thunder Storms. You can pretty much buy everything you need over there. There are a lot of 1 hour photo developing shops which offer good value - and in a lot of cases give you a free film for each one you get developed. Light and waterproof - you can't really go wrong. Bring your own cutlery that means you can make use of a lot of the cheap little supermarkets. Buying your own food is fun - and then you can play the fun little game called 'Guess what food this is' :-)

If you travel by public transportation think that everything you put into your suitcase has to be carried by yourself.When travelling by bicycle you must have adequate clothing for hot, cold, dry and wet weather. So it will always be a dilemma, which clothes to put in your suitcase and which not.We had special underwear, shirts, pants, etc… very light and offering a good protection against cold and wind. It can be washed out easy and dried quickly. Even when it rains, short pants and sandals are better than trousers. The rest is pure ballast. In spite of all our experience in this particular matter, our luggage was still too heavy. Biking Trip
