The patio for the HBH Bajor by Paul2001 The first city I visited in Hungary was the lovely town of Eger. Hence the the first place I sat down for a meal was here. I found that the HBH Bajor was the perfectly located restaurant. It was just off of the main square. Therefore since this was a weekend and the weather was beautiful, the restaurant was nearly full of tourist. Still I managed to get a seat on the patio (pictured). The service here was hurry but friendly. The meal really was not that expensive when you consider the location that attracted the tourist crowd.
Although the HBH Bajor advertises itself as a "Bavarian Beer-house", it also serves local Hungarian cuisine. The trouble is I cannot remember the name of what it was that I ate. It was something resembling a casserole but very spicy. Bubleves by kaloz This is dad enjoying some bubleves. Hungarian lesson: leves -- soup; bub -- bean; hal -- fish; so bubleves is bean soup, halleves is fish soup. This was at a take away with outdoor tables.

This bottle is waiting for you! by IngaA When visiting Eger, remember that there is the homeland of the world known Egri Bikaver (Bull's blood).
During the trurkish siege, defenders of Eger put the red wine on their faces and Turkish troops though that it was a bull's blood. That's how the name of the wine was born. Leave a Comment Theme: Local

Tokaj vine by Levente_D Hungary has many good vine regions. The most known one is Tokaj but there are others arround the Matra hills, on the northern side of Lake Balaton, as well as near the Danube in the southern part of the country. Don't leave Hungary without tasting some of the vines! Magyar Borok Háza Leave a Comment Theme: Local

by DesertRat The Red Devil - Vörös Ördög Étterem In the summer, most people eat under the trees in a flagstoned courtyard. There is always a strolling Hungarian violinist to entertain you, and the wine is always flowing.
The Apfelstrudel is the best I have ever had anywhere -- and I've lived in Austria and Germany, where Strudel is virtually an art form. Theirs is to die for, as they say. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: Address: Országház Utca 20 (on Castle Hill) City: 1014 Budapest Telephone: 214-3798

It's a small place but it actually has a non-smoking section, a rarity in Central Europe. Their food is a nice mix of foreign and traditional Hungarian.

Inside the coffeehouse by vadjutka A relaxed, but somehow vibrant coffeehouse with 20's decoration in the heart of Budapest, in the centre of the 2nd world war ghetto. Waiters are kind, and they give huge portions. The menu is not long, but everything is tasty. They also have a small theatre with comedies, cabaret, concerts.
