: Dobo Istvan ter (the Stephen Dobo Square), the main square in the town, in the past was used as a city's market. Now, divided into two parts by the Eger River, is the centre of Eger, with plenty of markets and restaurants. The two most remarkable buildings are the Minorite Church and the Town Hall. There are also two monuments in the square: the bronze statue of captain Dobo in the middle and the monument of heroes which defended Eger against Turks in the front of the Town Hall.

The Eger Cathedral (also called the Basilica) is the second biggest one in all Hungary. It stands at the Eszterhazy square and dominates the whole Old Town. One of the most magnificent examples of the Hungarian neoclassicism had been built in years 1831-1836, by Jozsef Hild, a famous architect from Pest to order of Eger's bishop Laszlo Pyrker.

Eger Castle, visible from just about anywhere in Eger, can be reached by walking northeast out of the square; enter it via the path out of Dozsa Gyorgy ter. You can just wander around the grounds, which are always open, or explore two museums on the premises.

If you like wine - This place is like paradise :) The most known wine from this region is called EGRI BIKAVER. In my opinion - is one of the best wine from Hungary. Many private cellars are in NICE WOMAN VALLEY, restaurants with traditional Hungarian foods and live music (gypsy musicians). Wine is cheap and in some cellars having Very Good taste ( I like red wine from cellar Number 46:)

If you can find the winery (not such an easy thing to do, our bus driver got lost!!) take a tour. I had 25 people with me and paid $60 for everyone to have a wine tasting that included food, about 15 bottles of wine and a tour of the facility

Bull’s Blood - This is a wine growing country. The viticulture in the region dates from the 13th century. The most famous wine of Eger is the ful l-bodied red wine Egri Bikavér, sometimes referred to as bull´s blood” because of the deep red colour. But there are other good wines, like Egri Leányka and Egri Medoc Noir

In "Valley of Beautiful Lady" dozens of wine cellars sell the wine just from barrels. Prices are very moderate - about 2 euros for one litre (or 50-60 forints / 0,1 l). One can buy a jug and drink it on the spot or a bottle which can take with oneself. Remember that "edes" means sweet, whereas "szaraz" - dry (feledes and felszaraz are semi-sweet and semi-dry). Where? Western part of Eger

Favorite thing: We visited Eger last holyday with a motorbike. Our goal was relax after mountains in Slovakai and Poland. But weather had changed our plans. So we started with Hungary. We spend there 3 nights and we were satisfied with something and disapointed wit otherthings.
We spent all time in small camp, but I don´t remember the name- but I thiung Tulipan is right. Camp is situated in part called virgin valley. The services were avarage. But excellent were near wine celar with perfect wine. There are about 50 posibilities, where tray wine. About town. We visited castle, but i didn´t satisfied with tour. It was so por of experience for us. No so bad, but we awaiting much more. Other things was that we wanted tried typical ciousine, what I can recomand is don´t visit restaurant, which you see in advertisment. When we did it, we were dispapointed. We tried game, various type of gulash, tipical soup... and we were satisfied, but it depended on pub... Next imporatant thing is spa, we were relaxing in town spa and we enjoyed it very well... Last thing is a ancient buldings in town. We saw itonly from outside, because we had not time for visiting and I thing that was big mystake..... So If you are looking for place with good wine, interesting dishes and spa EGER can by choice for you (like other Hungarien town´s )
