    City of Imre

by Odiseya Written Nov 15, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Well, Siofok is not personal property, of course. I just notice that many artist and notable inhabitants have that name: Kálmán Imre, Varga Imre, Imre Makovecz and dr Jámbor Imre.

All those people left so much their Siofok, for one or another reason or form.

Fondest memory: I just find it very interesting.
Imre is Hungarian male name and it is Hungarian form of Emmerich. This was the name of an 11th-century Hungarian saint, and he was son of Saint Istvan. He is also known as Emeric.

    Train station

by Odiseya Updated Nov 15, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Architectural attraction in Siófok is the train station.

The building was built in 1904. Rail link between the Buddha and Nagykanizso exists already since 1861, since 1863, the train stops in Siófok.

It is located in center and next to the nice Millennium park.

Fondest memory: It is one of spot on international railway line between Zagreb and Budapest and that makes it very easy accessible. In fact this is reason why I choose to come here.

Train station in Siofok is much impressive from outside then inside. It was summer and I didnt stay long in waiting room. Only this much time it needed to find right information (there is information offices but not so helpful because it was less English conversation). Fortunately, there are others travelers and one help us with maps.

    History of Siófok

by grayfo Written Mar 8, 2014

Favorite thing: The earliest finds for Siófok date from the Neolithic period, with later finds from the Copper and Bronze ages. The area really came to prominence with the Roman conquest in the 1st century and the need to defend the southern military roads, after establishing the Province of Pannonia, towns and roads in the area became vitally essential. The name of the village Fok appears among the tax-paying settlements first in 1137, while the compound word of Siófok has been known since 1790.

    Hell on Earth

    by caribou_ire Written Feb 18, 2005

Favorite thing: Listen to me, please. Whatever you do, where-ever you go, how-ever you feel just stay away from Síofok.
It is a nightmarish place for any traveller and the less time spent there, the better.
Siofok is full drunk Hungarian and Austrian muppets getting more and more beligerant as the night progresses. I was unfortunate enough to have to spend the night in a ridiculously over-priced campsite surrounded by crap music being played at an astonishing level. Throughout the night i was kept awake by the frequent cries of surprise from Hungarian drinkers returning to their abodes and accidently tripping over our tent strings.
It was not a pleasant experience.
Let me re-state; You do not want to visit Síofok, the land of spastics.

yes, that IS a satellite dish

    Memorial of WWI

by kaloz Written Feb 25, 2003

Favorite thing: Please click to enlarge, as my pictures are in a square format. I thought this a fitting memorial to the veterans of WWI. Instead of glorifying, it makes a statement about the absurdity of war, featuring a vulture to pick the bones of the dead.

In Balaton the water is pretty...

by blos Written Aug 26, 2002

Favorite thing: In Balaton the water is pretty warm, it was a joy to swim in compared to the freezing water in Ireland. I'm not sure about the water quality with so many resorts around, but as they say ignorance is bliss :o)

    Older section of Siofok

Favorite thing: Siofok does not appear to be too prosperous judging from this photo of where the people live. Maybe it was just my mood that day that made me take this photo.

    Water Tower

Favorite thing: The Water Tower is the most striking erection in Siofok. In the USA our water towers are generally very ugly. This one is modern but not ugly.
