    Lili-Put small train

by Odiseya Updated May 29, 2014

Touristic train is very interesting and convenient because Balaton shore in Siofok is very wide and walking is not so good option with heavy luggage. I was booking accommodation about 2,8 km from train station and it is a very long walk. Many accommodation option are available in that area and this small train could be good option for visitors.
It operate from spring to autumn. I find out later that could find train in Siofok center and that is connected with hotel in Silver and Gold coast.

Prices are various: for adults is 600 HUF, for children (4-14 years) is 300 HUF and for children under 4 year old is free of charge. Note that train tickets are valid for a return trip and that is available special discount for groups.

When you arriving in Siofok by train or bus, especial if you visiting city for the first time like me, you could end up hard to find your accommodation.
You could hire a taxi or little minibus (they are in front of the railway station).

    Traveling by bus

by Odiseya Updated May 4, 2014

There is bus station in Siofok next to the train station and Millennium park. It serve for domestic bus lines only.

I visit bus station to get information for another trip within Hungary or to Zagreb. There is a big timetable posters where you can get information and also official site but that for me was confusing so I get there to find out more in person. Both information resources are mostly on Hungarian.
There is also bank open 24/7 and toilet that need to be paid, of course.

    Traveling by train

by Odiseya Updated May 4, 2014

Train traveling is always my transport option. I travel by train from Budapest, from Budapest-Déli train station (Déli pályaudvar).
I take the ticket at arriving and without previous reservation. They accept FIP discount for 50 % for my sister and that was very good deal.
The ride is 115 km and it take about 1:40 till 2 hours depends train you choose without changing the train.

Note that Siofok is one stop on international railroads in region and this is a very good option for traveling. I left Siofok by train to Zagreb. There no direct bus lines for abroad.

    Ferry across Lake Balaton

by grayfo Written Mar 6, 2014

If you want to visit Siófok and are staying on the north of the lake a short-cut is to use the ferry from Tihany, we used this method and then drove back the scenic way giving us the best of both worlds.

The ferry crossing is located 8 miles south of Siófok

    Rail trip from Budapest

Trains to Siofok depart from Déli Station in Budapest. The trip lasts around 2 hours.

Be careful because there´re more than 1 train station in Siofok. After the main station, close to the city center, there´s the Balatonszeplacfelsö Station (I´m sorry if I misspelled the name, but I´m sure you´ll forgive me...!!!), on the Silver Coast.

Ferry from the North side of the lake

by kaloz Written Nov 30, 2002

We took the ferry across Lake Balaton on a grey and stormy day. There was some concern that the boat would not make the crossing. The ride was not that bad, and neither is it very long, as the lake is narrow, but wide. This is another picture of the memorial.
