This is a somewhat upscale local restaurant located in the back of summer home subdivision towards the outskirts of the city. It has a large outdoor terrace for summer dining that has a bucolic river view of the Tisza River. The restaurant makes it name serving local seafood. (actually fresh water fish) Unlike the typical like seafood cuisine that you are used to, like most Hungarian cuisine, it is very filling.
Favorite Dish: Vegyes halaszle (a spicy paprika and fish soup) using different kinds of the local fish of mostly carp and catfish. It can be a bit too earthy tasting for some as for some of their versions of this soup they grind up the bones and put them back in the soup, but I enjoyed the boldness of this soup.

This restaurant is a traditional Hungarian tavern, or csárda, that specializes in fish dishes. Sitting at an outdoor table with a view of the Tisza River and the nice streets of Szeged while having the best fish soup in Europe is a great way to spend an afternoon. Some of the dishes are a little bit more expensive than other restaurants, but it is definitely worth it considering the quality and quantity of food you are given. The chef has won the Tisza River cooking competition many times over the past several years. Also, the service is really good and there is a nice bakery/cafe across the street if you have room left for dessert.
Favorite Dish: One of the best dishes from this restaurant is the Paprika catfish with dumplings. Catfish and mushrooms are served in a mildly-spicy paprika sauce. The dumplings are covered in crumbled soft cheese, a generous amount of sour cream, and two slices of Hungarian sausage. It was the best fish I've had in my life!

Inside the pension Illés Panzió there is this restaurant, just downstairs - outside in a perfect surrounding (I doubt what they do in the winter, when it's too cold - probably go down to the breakfast cellar).
This restaurant is specializing in hunting meat, you can get great portions of boar and deer but also more 'regular' Hungarian food - all what I tried was always great (and I was there more than 5 times).
The people are nice and the service is great and it's not expensive. I liked #81 - which is beef steak pieces in peper gravy and it was 1790 Forint and made me totally full. The portions were so tasty and big.
It's definitely the best restaurant I've been to in Hungary.
Favorite Dish: #81 - Beef steak pieces in peper gravy.

This place is located in the square that runs the perimeter surrounding Szeged's city park. It is a cafe that serves up coffee and drinks or a full meal if you like. It is quite lively with loud music and televisions playing for its patrons. It's menu has a variety of Hungarian and international offerings as well as a lot specialty coffee drinks, cocktails and beer cocktails as well.
Favorite Dish: This place also has the local specialty of halaszle (a spicy fish soup using local fish) that is a bit milder for those who don't favor the earthiness of the more authentic preparations of this traditional soup that will be pleasing to just about anyone who can handle a little spiciness.

A pub will always make you feel at home, no matter where your home is or where the pub is. And this place does just that. The staff were friendly and spoke english very well. The menu was in Magyar (Hungarian), English and I believe the third was German. It has all that a pub should have, including Guiness on tap.
Favorite Dish: I went for something alittle bit different, and more pricey. I started with the French onion soup that they cook in a bread bowl, then I had the deer cook in a cherry and walnut sauce. Very Very good. This was one of the best meals I've ever had in a restaurant.

A typical Hungarian restaurant. At the first sight. At the second you might notice that the prices are probably a bit lower than you might expect, and the courses are bigger.
Favorite Dish: Halászlé - (fish-soup) the Szeged-style at its best. Spicy, hot, good tasting, just as it need to be.

Lesö Harcsa Halászcsárda (Eager Catfish Fishermen Inn)
Nice food, but the waiters seem a little arrogant. Sitting down and removing the 'reserved'from your table is done by Hungarians themselves, but we did not dare to do so and therefore had to wait a while.
Favorite Dish: FISH
