It would have been a pleasant trip if we had brought more food. Not expecting a bus to take so many deviations on a long route from Tiszafüred to Szeged. It took more than six hours, but saw a lot of small and nice vilages quite well on route. The best way to get to Szeged to go by train from Budapest. From the Nyugati trainstation in every second hour.

Inside Szeged you can take the trolley busses or some tram lines.
Unfortunately it's not great service and I find it overpriced. A single ticket costs 220 Forint, which is around a euro and this is only if you buy it in advance. From the driver it will cost you 270 Forint.
And the worst - if you have to change a bus/trolley/etc - because they don't have a direct line to your destination (which can be very close but still) - you have to use another ticket. I needed to use 2 tickets that made it over 2 euro one way which is very expensive for such a small city with lousy service.
A weekly ticket is also quite steep and the 10-ticket carnet gives you quite a small reduction and costs 1980 Forint.
By the way - they make quite frequent checks, so don't ride 'black'. They'll raid the buses without uniform and display their card. If you fail to show a ticket, you'll have to pay 4800 Forint fine.
Thus - the best: walk. It's a small walkable city. Theme: Bus

From Szeged to Subotica there is a bus every around 2 hours. The bus ride takes 1.5 hours. It's not so far from Szeged to Subotica but the border control will take a while and the bus goes into some small villages in Serbia and makes a detour before landing at the bus station in Subotica.
The bus was air-conditioned but the driver did not switch it on until I asked him to. So if it's so hot - please do ask him.
The trip was quite cheap at 880 Forint one way. You cannot pay with Serbian Dinars even if you come from the Serbian side and want to go the first time in your life to Hungary. You can pay with Euro though.
The bus goes from platform 2 at the bus station in Szeged, at Mars tér.

There is direct train connection going from Budapest Airport Terminal 1 to Szeged, and you can buy train tickets inside the terminal building.
If you arrived to Terminal 2 should take the bus line numbered 200 (which requires a ticket on its own), and get off at Terminal 1 to take the train. Trains are available hourly from 6:12am till 9:12pm (at the airport), originally departing from the Budapest Western Railway Station (22 minutes earlier).
The more comfortable line is the InterCity lines. For this you must purchase a railway ticket and a seat reservation ticket specific to your train, which costs about 3500 Ft.- (~€14 and ~$23). The journey takes around 2 hours. Theme: Train

Most places in Szeged can be reached simply by walking, and it's certinally worth it to see the sights, however, the alternative is the bus or tram system that runs around the city. To use this, buy a book of bus tickets from a local newsagents and when you get on the bus you will find a small box in which you side a ticket and stamp it (which is either automatic or a button you have to press).
