The statue of a Turul bird can be seen at the entrance to Buda Castle at the Castle district. Turul bird is a very important bird in the history of the Magyars. It is believed to be a large falcon. Statues of Turul can also be found in other parts of the country, the largest of which is located at Tatabánya. The statue of Turul bird at Buda Castle is certainly eye-catching and visitors will not miss it!

Museum of Fine Arts is one of the best museums in the city and a top tourist attraction. It certainly attracts hundreds of thousands of foreign tourists every year. It is located beside the Heroes Square. Museum of Fine Arts was designed by Albert Schickedanz and was constructed in the beginning of the 20th century. The neo-clasical style museum contains at least 100,000 pieces of arts from Antiquity to the present day. Collections consist of various collections such as Italian, French, Spanish, Greek, Roman and Egyptian. Opening hours are between 10.00 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday. Dohany Street Synagogue is located at between Deak Square and Astoria at Dohány utca in the city's 7th district. It is the largest synagogue in Europe and the second largest in the world after Temple Emanu-El in New York. It is also known as the Great Synagogue which was designed by Ludwig Förster. The interior of the Synagogue was designed by Frigyes Feszi. The synagogue was constructed in the middle of the 19th century and was consecrated in 1859. It has a seating capacity for approximately 3,000 people. The Moorish Revival style Dohany Street Synagogue is approximately 75 meter long and nearly 30 meter wide. The two octogonal towers are approximately 40 meter high. Opening hours to the synagogue are between 10.00 am and 5.00 pm daily. Closed on Saturdays. Széchenyi Chain Bridge (Széchenyi lánchid in Hungarian) is located between Roosevelt Square on the Pest side and Adam Clark Square on the Buda side of the city across River Danube. It is the first permanent bridge to be constructed in the city. The bridge was designed by William Tierney Clark and was constructed in the middle of the 19th century. The Chain Bridge was named after István Széchenyi.Chain Bridge is a suspension bridge and is the most famous bridge in the city. It is approximately 370 meter long with a middle span of approximately 200 meters. It was constructed of wrought iron on its suspension and stones on its towers. Both sides of the bridge have passageways for pedestrians with wonderful views of River Danube especially at night.

Hungarian State Opera House (Magyar Àllami Operaház in Hungarian) is located at Andrassy Avenue in the heart of Pest in the 6th district. This wonderful neo-Renaissance style building was designed by Miklós Ybl and constructed in the late 19th century. You can see the statues of many famous composers such as Beethoven, Verdi and Mozart erected on the roof of the building especially at its facade as depicted in our photograph on the right. Guided tour to Hungarian State Opera House costs 2,800 HUF per adult. The admission is free with Budapest Card.

Mathias Church (Mátyás templom in Hungarian) is located in the heart of the Castle district at Castle Hill beside Hotel Hilton and Fisherman's Bastion at Buda side of the city. It was originally built in Romanesque style of architecture in the 11th century but later renovated to the Gothic style in the 14th century. It received extensive renovation in the late 19th century. It was also converted into a mosque during the Ottoman rule. The church was officially known as the Church of Our Lady, built in honour of King Mathias.It is one of the finest churches in the city of Budapest and a great tourist attraction at Castle Hill. Don't miss the Mathias Church when you visit the Castle Hill! Opening hours are between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm during the weekdays, between 9.00 am and 1.00 pm on Saturdays and between 1.00 pm and 5.00 pm on Sundays.

Gellert Hill (Gellért-hegy in Hungarian) is located at Buda end of the Elisabeth Bridge on the 11th district of the city. The hill is approximately 230 meter high which is much higher than the Castle Hill nearby and thus offers much better view than the Castle Hill. It is good to climb up the stairs to the top if you are fit and healthy, but it can be very tiring. The hill is named after St. Gellért who was thrown to death from the top of the hill. Citadella built by the Austrians in the middle of the 19th century, is located near the top with the female statue of Liberty (holding a propeller blade) erected in front of it. The statue was erected to commemorate Hungary's liberation from the Nazi rule.

Heroes Square (Hösök tere in Hungarian) is located at the end of Andrássy Avenue next to the City Park and the Museum of Fine Arts in the VI district. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Budapest and is also a favourite meeting places for the locals. The square was constructed in the late 19th century to celebrate millenium. It is also known as Millenium Memorial by the locals and is certainly one of the most popular squares in the city.Heroes Square consists of a tall Corinthian column reaching the height of approximately 40 meters with the statue of Archangel Gabriel at the top (refer to our main photograph on the right). Below the column lies the equestrian statues of seven Magyar tribes who settled in Hungary in the 9th or 10th century.
