The first thing, if you plan on going to Buk, and going to spend some time at the SPA, is how to get there. The easiest is to fly into Vienna. Its only about 1 hour and a half hours by car to Buk from Vienna. We made arranges with the Travel agency for transportation. There is also a Bus available. So that the first travel. Stay in Vienna a couple of days or make it a stay when you leave. You cannot stop in Vienna and not vist. The next travel is after you get settled in the SPA is to visit the towns in the area. The first town is Bukfurdo, whatever Hotel you stay in, Bukfurdo town center is about a 3-5 minute walk. There are a number of places you can visit, but this is travel, travel, travel section. You can walk around Bukfurdo in about 15 minutes. A very small town with 3 large Hotels and a Thermal Bath and SPA facility that is used by everyone from miles around who come by bus. The Danubius and the Raddison Hotel have their own Thermal Bath and SPA in their hotel, but the other places use the town one which is called the Buki Gyogyfurdo. The next town is Buk, you can walk (about 20-30 minutes, take a bus or the mini bus) Much bigger than Bukfurdo and a definite place to visit It has a train station and its very reasonable to travel to other towns. Back to Bukfurdo, there is a bus station, and we used it extensively. Every Wednesday and Saturday we traveled, got on the bus and went to a number of towns (25-45 minutes away): Savar, Koszeg, Szombathely, Sopron. Each town was just a little different from each other, but all had a town square, all had museums and all were just fascinating to visit. Just a note, we spoke no Hungarian or German and got along fine. There were Tourist Information places were we stopped and got information in each town. We enjoyed our 2004 visit to Budapest and we enjoyed our 2005 trip to Buk/Bukfurdo. The Danubius Hotels in both places were fantastic and we look forward to staying with them again.
