The Balatonfured boardwalk begins at the marina, which is right in the centre of town at the lake. The boardwalk stretches for several kilometers in either direction, though there is more to do along the eastern side. There's a number of souvenir shops along the lake, and further down from the marina are food stalls and stages where there is live music at night. The boardwalk itself is lined with trees and is right beside the lake, so you can feed the snorting swans (really!) and look over to the southern shore of Lake Balaton.

From Balatonfured You can see Tihany peninsula.
The ancient Tihany village was founded in the Middle Ages when King Andrew I. founded here in 1055 a burial-place for the royal family and built a monastery, where Benedictine monks were settled. The Abbey of Tihany was authorised in the 13th century to issue official deeds (locus authenticus). During the Turkisch times, in the 16-17th century, the monastery, wich has benn transformed into a fortress, was demolished. It was rebuilt in beroque style in the 18th century and became a symbol of Tihany. A few years ago, the Benedictine monks were again put in charge of the monasetry and the Abbey Museum.

Rows of Sycamores line Tagore setany, the promenade that starts next to the harbour.
The promenade is named after the Hindu poet Rabindranath Tagore who came to Balatonfured in 1926 for its medicinal waters and planted a tree there.

Tagore Promenade (Tagore setany) is a beautiful walk along the shore of Balaton Lake. It was named in honour to famous Hindoo poet Rabindranath Tagore, who planted a lime-tree in the Balatonfured health-park after he had a successful heart cure in the spa. There are many more lime-trees planted there by other famous bathers. Tagore promenade has more than 1 kilometer lenght.

I found Balatonfured much more relaxed than Siofok. Friends told me that it's always like this except for the wine festival in August.
