The Balatonfured boardwalk begins at the marina, which is right in the centre of town at the lake. The boardwalk stretches for several kilometers in either direction, though there is more to do along the eastern side. There's a number of souvenir shops along the lake, and further down from the marina are food stalls and stages where there is live...more
From Balatonfured You can see Tihany peninsula. The ancient Tihany village was founded in the Middle Ages when King Andrew I. founded here in 1055 a burial-place for the royal family and built a monastery, where Benedictine monks were settled. The Abbey of Tihany was authorised in the 13th century to issue official deeds (locus authenticus). During...more
Tagore Promenade (Tagore setany) is a beautiful walk along the shore of Balaton Lake. It was named in honour to famous Hindoo poet Rabindranath Tagore, who planted a lime-tree in the Balatonfured health-park after he had a successful heart cure in the spa. There are many more lime-trees planted there by other famous bathers. Tagore promenade has...more

Every summer we usually spend one week in Balatonfüred, and Balaton restaurant is where we have dinner during our stay on most of the days. Though the restaurant doesn't look very appealing from the outside, but it is definitely my favourite place there, as they offer tasty meals of great portions for affordable prices. The restaurant is located in...more

The train station is on Horvath Mihaly utca, about 15 minutes walk from Lake Balaton. The Budapest - Tapolca train stops at quite a few resorts on the north shore of Lake Balaton -- the journey from Budapest takes approx 2 hours 30 minutes. If you want to go to Zagreb from Balatonfured (as I did ..) then you have to take a ship across Lake Balaton to...more
The region is famous for its wines. Perhaps in local markets you can buy every kind of Hungarian wines, but it is also possibly to get very good home-made wine directly from its producents. They can pour your own bottle as well as give you another one, for example 2-l plastic bottle for drinks. Usually there is a possibility of tasting wine in the place where it is stored. I don't know if all these things are legal, but what a special taste they have! It is not a complicated matter to find a wine producent, e.g. s/he may have bottles with wine standing on a small table in the road in the front of house.
Prices: about a half of that you have to pay for cheap wine in market.
Miscellaneous: It is good idea to have our own cork-screw, because sometimes we can easier buy a bottle of wine than that kind of tool. Our favorite glass bottle also may be useful, since it is possible to buy very good home-made wine directly from its producents. They can pour your own bottle as well as give you another one, for example 2-l plastic bottle for drinks.

This is the beach located a few kilometers away from the main strand and marina. I think we may have been the only non-Hungarians there! Esterhagzy is a long stretch of grass, with lots of trees, and a very short sandy area at the water's edge. You can swim in the water here, and there are docks a little bit away from shore where you can sunbathe....more
It is located to the north of Balatonfured. We went trough the forest up and up. But we were compensated for the amazing view to Balatofured, Balaton Lake and surrounding forests. We were there before the rain and the sky was from light to dark colours! We took a map and asked at the tourist office how to go there. There is no public transport to go...more
