We went to Heviz for the SPA and ended up at the Best Winehouse we have even been in. You have to go. It is right across the street from the Post office, and only about a block from the Catholic Church. You go down about 20 steps and into a fantastic wine restaurant. The furniture is heavy wood in the center of the room and the room is surrounder with wine from every part of Hungary. Wine tasting, great food, and a fantastic decor. The prices are more than reasonable and the owner and his son go out of their way to make you feel at home. If in Heviz this is the place you need to stop.
Favorite Dish: We got the 5 course meal with wine, and it was all good. The price was more than reasonable. There are other dishes on the menu that are less expensive, but we wanted to get the whole experience.

when in heviz it is a must to go to the vine yards restaurants. There is a mini train that stops at the bottom of the vine yards. You will need to take 10min walk up to the vine yards. But once there views are unbelievable with more than 20 restaurants to choose from, all with home made wine on offer. Here you will get a true taste of hungary. We found quite a few english menus. please try
Eating in heviz is very cheap our family 2 adults and 1 child had wine (& juice)and 2 course meals for around 10 english pounds.
Favorite Dish: so many favourite dishes to choose very traditional menus. I personaly like goulash or palechinta (pancakes)

This pension & cafe is really a sweet place, very nice and tidy with a wide variety of different treats for every taste. I would like to try every single dessert they offer. Everything looks sooo tmepting!
The place is conveniently situated right in the middle of the town, so whenever one gets tired from strolling around or windowshopping or swimming etc., this is a perfect place to go.
They also offer rooms to stay, which are not very expensive (considering the location and in comparison to Ljubljana).
Favorite Dish: ice coffee and vanilla ice with hot raspberries topped with cream

Excellent local (Hungarian) food with first class preparation and service. We paid for 2 persons including wine, beer, desserts, coffee and schnaps less than 30 Euros.
Favorite Dish: The "fogas" (pike-perch) was served with Mornay sauce, didnt get it this way for many years. The duck was served with duck- and gooseliver from the grill.

This restaurant has an outdoor patio area where you can eat in the summer whilst enjoying local music. In the winter there is also an indoor room. There is a great atmosphere and the food is excellent.
Favorite Dish: I had a venison goulasch with hungarian cottage cheese pasta for around 1,300 forints. It was delicious.

Q: I am visiting for couple of days at easter with the family, can I take children (8 and 5 years old) swimming in the thermal lake?
A: The only reference I could find about children and Heviz was from the Frommer's guide. They recommend using discretion with children because the waters in Heviz are...

Beautiful, peaceful and relaxing spa. The town itself looks like toytown and looking around you, you'd think you were in Germany not Hungary!
