I love books..... and I was so crazy about the library of this museum. Actually its library of 10.000 volumes is the most complete aristocratic collection in Hungary to have been left... so it´s the highlight of the museum. Not only for me.
As I mentioned already, in the castle there is a very interesting museum. (Well, I have to admit, for me almost every museum is interesting....)
This museum has not only a permanent and temporary exhibitions, it´s also a conference and culture center.
The library is not only the castle's largest room but it is also its most valuable. Today it is the only aristocratic private library in Hungary in its original state. There are more then 86.000 volumes, 119 manuscripts and 4 of the earliest printed books. Many of the valuable works are only one or two copies in the world.
This is one of the quiet streets which leads from the centre of Keszthely toward Balaton lake. Nothing special, rather sleepy street; totaly different is in the very centre of the town.
Tourists with a limited budget can always find an eating place at reasonable prices. This eatery in the photo is one of them.
Wandering in the town, many restaurants, small hotels and B&B are to be found in Keszthely. No one is not far away from the coast of Balaton lake even on foot.
The Festetics Castle, with its huge proportions, is one of the biggest castles in Hungary and, as far as I am concerned, it is the most beautiful Hungarian castle.
The front entrance and the newly erected tower. At the bottom of the tower there is a semi-circular closed portico from where marble stairs lead to the upper floor.
If you pass the gate of the castle you will find yourself in a very nice park. Here I show you the castle from the backside....
