Nice castle with a wonderful park and interesting museum
A quiet haven or a set from Scooby Doo. Not much in between...
Keszhely is a small charming town located North-West part of Balaton region. It is the ton of 23.000 inhabitants. The very centre of the town is about 20 minutes walk faraway from the lake Balaton. Both photos were taken in the eastern end of the main square where stands the Holly Trinity Statue.more
Although there's no actual Australian people in here (or english speaking people for that matter) this is a great place to get some not too expensive food. Friendly waiting staff, good atmosphere and seems to be one of the only places open off season. The Pies are absolutely gigantic. Ask for a doggy bad to take away what you can't finish.more

Unfortunately we were too late to take some picture of a crowded market but I am sure you all have seen such a place before.
Typical for hungrian markets are salami and... paprika. Of course you can find a lot more as well.
What to buy: Not only in Keszthely, everywhere in Hungary you will find salami and... paprika....
Let's face it, Hungarian isn't the easiest language in the world to get to grips with. And English is less widely spoken in Keszthely than in Budapest. However, since half the population of Germany seem to visit for the curative powers of nearby Heviz thermal lake, most people in the town speak German as a second language. So I'd recommend printing...more

In Héviz, just outside Keszthely, you can take a bath in thermal sources. A craterlake is made into a heathcentre. The water is coming straight up out of the earth and is always, in summer and wintertime between 28 and 30°C. Every 28 hours the water is totally refreshed, in a natural way. The mud that is coming out of this lake is a little bit...more
The Pethoe-house (or Goldmark-house) was not easy to find because it's located behind an inconspicuous gate in the pedestrian zone. (Kossuth u. 20)This building is of mediaeval origin, it was rebuilt in the 18th century. The composer Karoly Goldmark was born here in 1830more
